Just got an e-mail from bike forums notifying me of the Kryptonite lock problem and where to go for an exchange. I had no idea this was a problem (I haven't visited in a while) and I still don't know why Joe sent me an e-mail, but this forum provides a great service.

Most forum systems have an option to e-mail all users, which is what Joe did. It's a great tool to get word out on something important, and usually used sparingly because some people get offended. In this case Joe made the perfect call to get the word out on an important piece of information, and obviously some people didn't have that bit before. Kudos.
Right. I've never gotten another e-mail, so it is clearly used judiciously.
