Hybrid Bicycles - New Sirrus Sport, bar and computer questions

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Bought a 2010 Specialized Sirrus Sport last weekend and put the first 30 miles on it and love it. A couple of questions:
1. The LBS explained that the bar could be flipped over to give a more road bike posture. I thought that this might be a good compromise between upright and true road bike (hated the feel of the hand position relative to the brakes on those). Has anyone done this?
2. I wanted to install a Cateye Vectra with cadence. The shop said that they couldn't install it because the angle of the crank and the frame at the point of the sensor made the distance too far. It would have required a kludge to build up a mount for the sensor, and they felt that it would not give a long-term steady fixture. I went with a non cadence version that only needed a regular front wheel only sensor. Anyone care to refute the LBS? Should I install it myself?

I say "BS" to the LBS I run a Cateye Astrale 8 on my '07 Sirrus with no problems. Just mount the sensors where they will be close enough to work or order up the extra strong cadence magnet. I say mount it yourself and make it a "before bedtime" quality-time-with-the-bike project.
p.s. Pics or it didn't happen.
p.s.s. If it's the yellow and black version I'm going to hate you..:p:lol::D

I have the same bike and I didn't flip the the riser but I did adjust the sleeve which dropped it roughly 7-10 degrees. So far I like it, as far as the Vectra I have no idea.

I was suspicious of the LBS answer, so I'll do this myself at some point.
I'll take a picture next time I'm home but it's not too exciting - completely stock, looks just like the specialized website :-)
Luckily (only to prevent lust and rage) it's not yellow. I was only offered white or dark blue, and went blue. Yellow would be cool.

White would have been good too. White and yellow show up well at night.

I have a 2010 Sirrus Sport. I flipped my stem the same day I bought it. This setup has worked out very well for me. When you grab the bar ends, it's like halfway to being in drops.
The stock setup for the stem was far too upright for my liking
I'm decent mechanically with cars but never worked on a bike. Is this something I should do myself? Is it just removing the shifters and everything else, removing the bar and reinstalling? If I search will I find picture guides for this type of stuff?

"Real life" photos are always much more enjoyable than the "bike with a generic white background" on most bike websites. You can see the true "aura" of the bike. Seeing a real world example of a 2010 Sirrus will help give me something different for a change over my usual FX series fantasies.

Nope, it's much easier!
Just remove the bolts on the stem, and flip it over. Reattach it to tyhe bike, and reattach the bars - They will now be lower.
It couldn't be easier - you don't have to remove any controls at all.
p.s. - attaching the sensor to the frame - keep it tight to the frame, and shim the magnet out to reach to the desired distance - keeping the sensor close to the frame helps to protect it - magnets, if needed, are cheap (or free at your LBS - they usually have a box full of them) You can use anything to shim it , a piece of rubber, or pieces, with a little dab of silicone to keep it in place, then zip tie it all together around the crank arm - it's really easy - that LBS was trying to put one over on you.
I'll have to wait a couple of days until I'm back to the bike to look at this. In my mind if you flip the bars everything else attached would also flip so I can't picture how this works until I can put my hands on the bike again.
The LBS said that the shimmed magnet would be unstable and reliable. Guess I'll have to come up with a more secure mounting system than they could.....
If you happen to have a picture of one that is installed, that would be cool.
