Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Finding that perfect pedal strap.

I've tried a multitude of pedals, cages, pedals with 'Power Grips' straps which I'm not wild about. I have seen some pedals or more importantly the straps on a few bikes around town or on them interwebs that are velcro and seem easier to adjust on the fly and are more adaptable if i'm not wearing close toed shoes, which I often don't in the summer. Does anyone have any positive or negative experience with these with regard to comfort, longevity, pedal compatibility and equally important, who are they made by, what are they called and do you know where to find them on Al Gore's international info-land?

I made some out of nylon webbing I bought online, they work well, but the velcro is nice for when you swap shoes if there's a decent change in size.
I cant comment on quality on these as I havent tried them, but they all look pretty nice.

+1 I've used both and they both perform great aside from the holdfasts looking a bit nicer and refined, therefore costing more than the blaq straps.

I've been meaning to ask about these... Am I crazy or do they seem more practical than a cage? Having a bigass strap securing your shoe instead of trapping your shoe in a cage does undeniably provide better foot retention. Am I wrong? No matter how tight I get the strap on my cages, there's always a little bit of room for my foot to move around, and thus my toes end up going numb and I keep having to shift them.

I'm just scared to buy them because the hXc roadies will snub me, and the f1x13 k1dz will see me and expect me to do a barspin or something.

That is absolutely true. Clips and straps are made to be ridden tightened down with cycling shoes and slotted cleats. The big Holdfast type straps are designed for riders wearing sneakers and other casual, non cycling-specific shoes. They're also really comfy and once you get the tightness correct you can slip your foot in and get it very snug with no on-the-fly adjustments. I use RELoad Lockdown straps on BMX pedals for my casual riding.

At first they were a PITA for me to get into. But lately I find wearing a fat pair of hightop dunks I can flip my pedal and get my feet into even when Im moving at a decent cadence. Plus for me they're really comfortable. Unlike clips your toes dont get mashed against the front of the cage which caused me a bit of pain.

Anyone ever heard of a brand called tramp stamps? A guy a was riding with had em and he said he got em for 15 bucks, which is a steal compared to paying 50 or so for the ones posted so far. He said he didn't have any problems with them so far, but for the price I would guess it's made with a much cheaper material. It looked essentially the same as these ones though. I think I saw them once for about 25 on a website, but I don't remember the name of it. Anyone know of where to get these because I've been looking into grabbing these velcro straps too.

I will personally be getting a set of the wigs when I pick up some BMX pedals.

THe guys on urban velo did a review on these vp-001 pedals a while back. platforms that are a little thinner if you have pedal strike concern. They retail for 80 bucks I think but I found em on ebay for half that. Ive never seen them but I figure if your in the market for some new school straps you might need to to get you some new pedals too.

It's especially bad when at the checkout page they have a drop menu to select your country and when you click on update price it tells you that they don't ship internationally :twitchy:

The cheapest straps like that that I can find around here are the YNOT straps for $50

look for a friend in the states. i'm sure someone here on the forums will help you out for the right price, lol. all thats needed is a paypal account and an address.

I'm really interested in getting these kind of straps but I need to find the perfect pedal that will work.
