Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - Tried my first semi long ride today

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was super nervous as I do not have tire levers and the bike shop was closed. I went alone so that if something went wrong, no one would be around to see it and make fun of me...(sarcasm)

I started by leaving Corvallis via Lewisburg Rd. and went through the West Albany Hills. I rode all around Albany and then back to Corvallis via River road. Did 38.1 miles.

I did end up having one thing go wrong with my shifter, but a good Samaritan at a yard sale was kind enough to loan me a screwdriver:)

My body feels just like any other day I ride my bike, and this leads me to believe I am ready for longer rides.

All in all it was really fun, I can't wait to do it again!

One word of advice, "buy the big bag so you can fit more than a tube and your phone in it."

Sounds like a nice ride. I use the VO Croissant saddle bag (http://www.velo-orange.com/saddlebag.html) on one of my bikes and a Zimbale bag (http://hydeparkcyclesports.com/product/zimbale-leather-and-canvas-saddle-bags-2-liter-saddlebag-872.htm) on another. Both work fine and hold all my essential stuff.

Congratulations on the longer ride! I carry 2 tubes, a patch kit, tire levers and a mini tool in my seat bag. I use my jersey pockets for the cell phone and food.

Wow those both look great and would go god with my brooks I jsut ordered. Thanks!!I have had the Zimbale bags (handlebar bag and a saddle bag) for almost a year now and they have been exposed to the elements of nature and seem to hold up well. I guess some would say they are Carradice knock-offs, but I think they are a great value. I got mine from Hyde Park Cycles (very good experience - I don't know them at all but I will sure do business with them again), but I know a few other online stores have them as well.
