Introductions - New to the forum, new me, & new sport!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Bonny & I live in windy west Texas. As of two years ago, I was a competitive female pro bodybuilder. I know cycling is a far cry from bodybuilding, but I really think this is my next sport to try & conquer(ish). I competed as a pro bb for about 12 years. The best I placed was 4th at the Ms. Olympia several years ago. The heavy weights became a little too much for my body to take & the general public doesn't look to kindly on the sport anyway. SO...I decided to retire from the bodybuilding world & go back to being a normal looking woman again (this has not been easy & I'm definitely not there yet). :) I bought a hybrid for my birthday this past June & I've been riding as often as I can (every single weekend). (Only up to 35 miles at one time) I'm so hooked now that I can't stay off the internet looking for what would be the BEST road bike for me (brands, components, etc.). There's way too much out there & it's been very confusing. I'm very competitive & I'm thinking that I might love competing in this sport as well. I know it's going to take a lot of work, but I'd love to at least give it a try. I have a very dear friend that's currently racing & he's offered to help me in any way he can. Unfortunately he's hours away. I would love any input that you guys might have on any subject! Thanks so much in advance!!! :D

It won't take that much work, but it takes about 2 years to reach your racing potential.
Visit local bike shops and tell them you want to race.
Where are you in Texas?

I'm in West Texas (San Angelo). We're about 3 hours northwest of San Antonio. We go there a lot, so maybe that's a better place to start. The local guy here wouldn't even sell me clipless pedals b/c he thought I needed to ride for a few more months. I got them in San Antonio despite his rec and have done great.

what part of 'windy west Texas' you from? I am in Fritch and definitely identify with the windy part. I also have to (or get to) take on the challenge of lots of hills around the lake here. There is a pretty decent local website out of Amarillo called Old Tascosa Cycling Club. About 700 members over there but most are not terribly active online. They do have numerous weekly rides from moutain biking to road riding. Check em out if you are close enough to join the fun.

Hey there everyone, just wanted to say hello. I am new to the forum and to the ss/fg thing. After drinking the red koolaid those guys served up, I pulled the trigger on a Fuji Feather in celeste blue. I will have pics up when I get that figured out.
