[re-post from mechanic forum]

Does anyone have experience with this tool (http://www.amazon.com/Avenir-Cinco-de-Fixie-Wrench/dp/B003BML4H2/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1283118755&sr=1-10)? Is it of any quality?

Do you know of any alternatives you would recommend over it? (for ballpark similar price)

Edit: Also, know if it fits 1/8 cogs?

Every time we get them they seem to sell pretty quick.

I have it, Not impressed. The Chain links on the back side of the lockring tool can make it a pain to get a good grip on the lock ring.

I have it, it works fine for me. I use rotafix to get cogs off. The only thing that sucks is that the lockring spanner can be a real pain if you don't have one of those raised style lockrings(Milwaukee, Eighthinch, etc.) it just won't get a good hold of it and you will hurt your knuckles.

I have a tool exactly like this but by sunlite; its good to have on the go. But I prefer my parktool tools due to this lacking some torque to my liking due to its compact size.

I havent had this perticular tool, but have had similar ones. Every single one has folded the first time I tried to take a cog off. Anything that isnt a foot long and 1/2" thick just isnt work it as a chain whip. Your chain whip doesnt need to be carried with you, so invest in a good heavy one that wont fold under you.

My experience with combo tools is that they do everything poorly. Better to get one really good tool for each task, and you'll never break or strip anything. Good tools last a lifetime. Some of my bike tools are 30+ years old.

This. I never had the problem because my lockring was relatively thick, but when my friends tried using this tool they'd tear their knuckles up. Half the time they'd just pull out a screwdriver/hammer combination and just use the tool for it's chainwhip.
