Hello again folks I was wondering if there is any lightweight wheelsets out there for under $150.00. I purchased some "tec9" deep V's 43mm back in 2009. They are monsters @ 10lbs thats over 5 lbs per wheel with tube and tire. That on my Alum road frame 7lbs means a 23+lb fixie. My girlfriend just got a set of Eighth-inch "Amelias" They hit the scales around 8.5 lbs with tubes and tires. Granted these wheels will probably never need truing anytime soon, is there a compromise out there? How much does a B43 wheel set weigh with tubes and tires? I know they are about 2x's the price are they half the weight? What is heavy for a Deep V wheel set? Anyone have Velutas Deep V's? I was just going to get some box type wheels because they are lighter, can I get some that are just as strong? Any suggestions? I have seen some deals on Ebay and CL what should I jump on? Other than components I think this is the best way to lighten up a bike.

B43 rims are 770g each. so with spokes, hubs, tubes, and tires i guess it should be around 3~4 lbs.

With tires and tubes? Maybe 2800 grams. Yes, this is a total ballpark number.

Well thats not that much lighter....
What about regular track wheelsets with shallow V's?
Are they as strong or will I have to true them every other week?
I live in Portland not the best roads if your not on the Bike paths.
Any recommendations under $150 bucks?
Weinmann DP18?

The strength of wheels and whether or not they remain true has little to do with the depth of rims and lot to do with the quality of the rims and most importantly the quality of build. If you want some quality built wheels for modest prices go here >>> http://www.velomine.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=87_172_175

The "deep v" hierarchy goes: velocity -> weinmann/alex rim ->vuelta

they are solid rubber

Must suck if you skid....

Yup and they are stiff as hell. A lighter alternative to a b43 would be the deep double walled H plus son's...
