...it all works brilliantly, thanks to a JTEK Shiftmate.
I had enough parts around to finish up my new-to-me Ritchey Breakaway cyclocross build except shifters and brakes. I liked the feel of Campagnolo shifters so I purchased 10 speed Veloce shifters w/cable set, a couple extra cables, and Veloce front derailleur for only $150 shipped from Ribble!
I also decided to experiment with Tektro RX-5 mini-v brakes and picked those up for about $30.
The stuff I already had included:
SRAM Rival crankset
Various 9-speed sram cassettes
SRAM 9-speed chain
and the piece de resistance... Shimano XT "low normal" rear derailleur
With the Jtek Shiftmate (#2) in place, the shifting is great! Hitting the thumb button and having the derailleur downshift up the cassette (thanks to the low-normal derailleur) is a trip, but actually works really well. The brakes are pretty good but I'm going to have to dial them in a little better with pad type and placement for best leverage.
