Fifty Plus (50+) - Only 18 days to go.

Have a ride on the 18th- Not a big one- long one or hard one- but it does mean something for me personally. It is the Tour of Britain London Stage and I am doing the Sponsored ride before the main event. The Ride is for Prostate Cancer which I am a recoveree 8 years after surgery.

But the Event is causing me a problem. It is the same day as the Anuual International Pie Ride. Last year I was lucky enough to know the part of London it was being held in and although Various Cafes have closed down since I was last there- I managed to find a superb cafe that sold apple pie. Nearly got lynched when I got back to the assembly area as all the other riders had been able to find was a Starbucks.

The other problem I have is that I have to prepare the OCR for this ride. It is the only one that will take a rack to be able to mount the placard on. None of the other bikes will take a rack but I don't fancy riding those with a 30lbs billboard stuck on the back.

Don't think the report this year will show the Tourist Views- as it is being held in the East End of London. The only tourist point from there is the London Docks and they closed down years ago.

So now onto the other thing that is happening on the 18th. The Pie Ride. I am in training and have been for several week/months/years so I hope that that the training part of the ride will be covered. Just hope I can find a Pie that will merit the occasion.

Good pie is harder to find every year. You could ask someone to bake you a pie and meet you at the appointed place and hour....?

I truly hope the ride is an exceptional one for you. If you're taking a 30 pound billboard along with you, why not sneak along a small box with some blueberry pie in it?

Pie will not be a problem--I am sure--But the backup will be taking a homemade portion with me.

Are you planning to eat kidney pie?

Steak and kidney may be on the cards on the trip home but South London is the home of Pie and Mash shops. The mash is lumpy and made from cheap potatoes and taste is not good. The pies are the cheapest cuts of Meat- No matter what the splurge says.

And the pie is steam baked. Sounds terrible but it is not. But just like Blueberry Pie- not for the untrained palate. On top of that- They also sell jellied eels. Just the look of those turns my stomach so I'll probably be popping into an Irish Pub in Streatham for the best Steak and kidney pies I have ever tasted. Made from Rump steak and Pigs kidneys and only the best quality of both. That is if it is still there.

But on the ride- I hope to find a decent bakery that will sell Fruit Pie. The old East End of London had dozens of them but since it turned into the business centre of London- I may not be able to find one. But I have a Plan- Home made pie taken from home. Only as a Backup and it will depend on what is left in the freezer from this years crop- or what is in the garden and hedgerows in the week beforehand. Just hope there's some Gooseberry's left
