is that a deal? its a single speed with horizontal dropouts. I wish it was track, but it will do. its silver and cosmetics look great still.

this is what the guy said.

Lugged steel frame by Bianchi with neat "B" stamped into fork crown. 57cm top tube center to center. 57 cm seat tube center to center. Original diginfied silver with dark blue lettering.
Nice lightweight 170mm SR crank set, 42x16 gear ratio, Araya aluminum wheels were checked and trued by a Pro wheel guy. Front hub is Normandy, made in France. Rear is Nakano, made in Japan. Hubs and bearings are like new and roll smoothly. and were just serviced. Stock steel head set is smooth and has been serviced. Dia Comp brakes have been cleaned, polished and have new pads. Shimano levers are nice. Specialized saddle is like new.
New Shimano Cartridge 107mm bottom bracket, new ACS free wheel, new seat post, new bar tape, new 27x 1 1/8 "Panasonic Pasela tires, new brake pads, new cables, new MKS touring pedals, clips and straps.
I built this bike for my own use. Sadly I must sell. There is no junk or improper repairing to be found with it.

Does it fit? If so I'd say go for it. I'd buy a new rear wheel with a fixed hub and ride it like that, maybe change the gearing to fit my needs, that kind of thing.

If you want to go fixed, you will have to get a new wheelset. The frame is nice, forged dropouts, lugged. It seems like a good deal.

well seeing that I just sold my 85 bianchi veloce for 625, I think thats a pretty damn good deal!

i don't see the telltale columbus stickers on the frame or fork...so it's just a basic, generic bianchi frame.
that being said, it's a nice looking frame with run-of-the-mill mix and match components.
so if you like the way it looks, it fits you, and you want a single speed then by all means go for it!

Assuming those pics are of the bike that you're buying, then I'd do it without hesitation if it fits. Looks like a nice bike.

everyone is so gaga over old bianchis.
i've seen a million of that same frame with "takara" or "nishiki" or "yokota" decals with the same mismatched components for way less than $200 and no one ever flips out over those bikes.

ekk!! i actually noticed that because i was looking if they have the right size chainring bolt and noticed its backwards. maybe i should ask for $180?

Haha, there's nothing really wrong with them, unless theyre not single stack bolts. I'd say buy the bike. Its pretty.

I would guess its the lowest end frame of the time. It pretty much a Bianchi in name only. Bikes from that era luged and forged drop outs mean nothing. Every bike was built that way, no matter its quality, there just wasnt another way.

I agree. You are getting screwed. Lugs are overrated, especially when on a cheap gaspipe frame. The cheapest bike from BD is gonna be lighter, stiffer, and work better than that thing and need fewer modifications. I'd pay maybe $50, and leave it as is and use it as a beater.

i'd do it for 150. Looks pretty clean. Can't ride it fixed, tho

FWIW, I had a Japanese '80s Bianchi conversion that was a great bike

Issues:

1) 27" wheels = limited tire selection
2) changing to 700c wheels = need to change brake calipers
3) small chainring badly worn (shark fin teeth) but a larger chainring will hit chainstay, may need different BB spindle length
4) rear hub is really cheap and front hub is low end
5) short horizontal rear dropouts = limited chain adjustment

wow you guys really know whats up. thanks for the heads up. I guess i wont be picking it up. I'll just buy a beater for now. Like a shogun selectra from the 80's. Found one for $35. :) lol
