Crank,
Here are a couple of ideas. The most bang for your buck!
Either the Topeak Alien XS. It is a 17 function multi tool. Or the Topeak Alien it has 22 functions. It includes a Chain riviot tool along with some others that the XS does not include. The reason I like the Topeak brand is that each tool extends out to be used individually. They are not all jammed up into one little tool rendering them virtually useless. The also come with their own handy dandy carring case. You can mount it to your bike with velcro (velcro is not included) or carry it on your belt.

I use the old CPR-9, bought it a few years ago in my courier days and its saved me many, many times. It only has nine functions, well, seven since I lost the small allen key with the screw driver, but the chain break and the spoke wrench come in handy when yer lookin for a quick fix.

I got an Ascent multi-tool from performance on sale for $8. It's great for the price, has good allen wrenches, a couple box wrenches, spoke wrenches, screwdrivers, bottle opener, and a tiny little LED light which is kind of useless but what the heck. It's not the smallest tool but it's pretty compact and has worked well for me.

I carry a Trek Cooter on one bike and a 22-function Topeak on another. I sometimes carry a Leatherman clone. Otherwise, I can get by on short rides with a spoke key, 5- and 6-mm hex keys, tyre levers, a small screwdriver, a spare inner tube, a pump, and a patch kit.

It's probably overkill, but I got one for $22. I use it for most home repairs as well. I use the spoke wrenches to true my wheels. It slides apart and the body is two tire levers. It'll adjust just about anything on my bike.

While I have a Topeak Alien, I've found a dual 5mm and 6mm hex wrench, spoke wrench, compact chain tool, and tire levers take care of almost all of my roadside repairs.

You ok there, Raiyn? The Topeak Hummer works for me. Rivet tool, and it makes a decent weapon. I have a couple of Aliens floating around the garage too.
I just hate newbies that do that. It's probably SPAM to boot
Dude, how did they even find something that old, and why? By the way, did you misunderstand something on The Aussie Thread?

What's wrong with an updated discussion of a topic like this, Raiyn? After all, new products appear on the market, others are improved. The fact that we all clicked on it suggests that it was of interest. And, besides, it's the internet, where crazy stuff appears all the time; this seems pretty mild.

We complain when people start new threads without checking to see if old ones already cover the subject. So we shouldn't complain when someone adds to an old thread instead of starting a new one.
BTW, my Topeak Hummer arrives tomorrow. When I started commuting in earnest, I bought individual tools because I wanted the best for work at home. I also didn't want to pay for duplication. I just keep two screw drivers, two ratchets, a small crescent wrench, a spoke wrench, chain tool, etc. in my seat bag.

I've personally enjoyed this renewed review of the multi-tools.

Calm down. What's insane is that you took a screenshot, put a rectangle around the date, and uploaded it to a server so you could post it on this thread. I mean, it's most certainly spam, but it's still a thread with info in it that could help people.
Um, Raiyn is insane. In the membrane.

I like a good work when I see it. Like Raiyns post, nice work done there mate. He put a little effort in that post to make it a good overall experience for the rest of us. Graphics and all, quite informative graphics also by the way.
If he had included Gary Coleman, no one would have said a word. Go figure.

Talk about degeneration, whether the thread is old or not.
Raiyn, you should know better. Stop with the rubbish.

So, you think it's annoying to bring up an old, relevant thread instead of starting again from scratch, but you don't think it's annoying to fill a thread with unrelated garbage? Get a life. You are the one that's being a jerk.
If you don't want to add to or read a thread, don't. There's no rule that says that every member has to like every thread. Just don't post graffiti over threads others may actually want to read.

If people would acttually just read the old threads rather than post answers to issues resolved LONG ago we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Ok, everyone go to timeout for 10 minutes. And quit your snivelling. I you don't like it, don't read it.

That's terrifying Raiyn.
I had a multi-tool and my mom lost it. Now I carry a wrench folding set of allen wrenches, tire levers and a small chain tool. They weigh about as much as an decent multi tool and work better for their selected jobs. Haven't needed much else but a flat kit...yet.

Thanks, I had not noticed. I can certainly understand your outrage over the spam, but I do think an updated review of the subject has some value.

I'm going with Raiyn on this one. This exact topic was just covered in the last couple of weeks.
If the originator of this thread had just looked at the first two pages of threads (at the time) he'd have found it. Anyone who can't understand why Raiyn "went off" on this one is just not paying attention.
for reference, see this thread:
"Best All-in-one biking tool for the road?"
- posted on 2/23/05 - less than two weeks from when this thread started
and, this thread is: "what multi-tool do you use?" DUH !
Plus, you've got to love the bouncing Firebird ;)

So we have to sit back and watch the incorporation of as much OT rubbish (ie, pictures of has-been TV people) as the original spammer might have posted. Who should get their posts deleted? It's a no-brainer.
Pity the poor person who does a seach in a year's time on multi-tool posts (as always urged by certain people) only to come across this sort of rubbish. Does credibility of neither BF nor Raiyn nor people like you any good whatsoever.

Be that as it may, the entire point of my beef (pre any extra GIF) was that old threads are to be read not replied to.
