So I have this squeak, not just any sqeak, one that i can feel and here. Let my give you some history on this. About six months ago I got my brand new 4300 about two months after i start to get a squeak, sounds like in the pedals b/c its directly below me, I try to fix it, but said screw it, and bought a new set of peds. in the process of replacing the old ones i strip my crankset. bought a new crankset and put new pedals on.....ahhhhhh......no noise.
Then i bust that crankset, buy a new crankset, and now about three weeks later the SAME DAMN NOISE IS BACK. I can feel each squeak in my pedals, this is a two month old bb, three week old crank, and about four month old set of peds WTF. Im goin insane. WHAT CAN I DO.
thankyou

What crank, bb and pedals do you have? (Hold off a bit on throwing that bike off the cliff ; )

bb is shimano square taper, and the creakset (haha) is shimano aswell, pedals are odyssey. Im in the process of overhauling my drive train at the moment, maybe that will help.

These situations can truly drive a person crazy. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
Three suggestions (especially since you are rebuilding your drivetrain):
1. Make sure everything is tightened down extra well. My first guess is something was loose, you tightened it and it's loose again.
2. Make sure everything is well lubed and, in extreme situations, even consider using some teflon tape in places like where the bb mates to the cranks, frame, ....
3. If 1. and 2. don't do it, think creatively. Is it a certain pair of shoes that causes the squeek? Water bottle cage or frame pump or ..... flexing? Bar getting torqued when you muscle down on the pedal? Etc. Etc. Etc.
'Creakset' - Good one! :D

Loctite and that special tape are your friend. Or of course you could always just throw it off a cliff because after all.......
you did buy a trek :D

LOL! I'd throw it off the cliff or just tighten up the saddle.

I like your new avatar kona, but I liked the one with the funny guy more. Anyways, as someone else said, lube things up. Look for small crackis and stuff. What did you do on the trek. Check your saddle, bb, cranks, pedals, shoes and frame. Maybe your frame cracked. Heh heh TREKS.

Chances are the creak is transmitting from another place other than your cranks/bb/pedal area. I'd start by tightening down all the bolts on the bike. Seatpost bnder bolts are known for creaking. Also the seat itself. Those creaks can and will drive you nuts.

Wtf @ above post.
I had those issues before as well. Did you put some grease on the pedal threads before installing? That fixed my problem.

Oh yeah, raiyn and a2, I was awake at that time. My mom had angina attack, had to call 911 and get her to hospital. Stayed with her until 3, she told me to go home andI slept, next morning shes at home and I'm relieved. *sigh*

Sorry to hear, you sound like a straight up kid, your mom is lucky to have a good son.
Best to you and her.

What is angina?
I believe -pain in the chest assosiated with heart muscles. Not an attack, but feels like one.
well, I did a quick search..http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/Diseases/Angina/Angina_WhatIs.html

Yeah, it's like a weaker form of a heart attack, and it is a disease, from what I hear, it stays and there is no good cure. It's not as random as it's already there, question is when it'll strike.
Let's keep this on tpic, sorry for off tpic thing. So, snakehhunter, has the creaking stopped?

Its a warning sign for serious heart problems. Usually, at least in moms case. (shortly after my mom started getting angina attacks (multiply heartburn by 100) she ended up with a triple by-pass.

How are you breaking these cranksets, this being your second? Which RF did you order?

its the prodigy dh i think, ISIS drive etc. What happens is that the square hole for the bb to enter gets bent, so it doesnt fit properly anymore. Im writing a letter to Shimano to let them know about my problems and loss of trust, Maybe theyll send me some stuff, hhehehehe.

Could be that the crank bolts weren't fully tightened before riding...just be sure and cover this base on your next crank set.
