Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Fixed Gear Newbie, need a little guidence.

Hello, I am looking to get started in fixed gear riding. I have read around and have looked at what people consider solid starter frames. Right now I have my eye on this Windsor The Hour.

I have read that the frame/fork are exactly the same as a Fuji Track, but just rebadged. Is this true?

I have also read that all the other parts on the bike aren't very good, but the frame/fork are fine.

Brand new, the Windsor costs $350 I believe, the used one I am looking at is asking $250, but I think I can get a little lower. Would this be a good starter bike considering the price? It comes with a Specialized front brake which I think is great, because I will definitely need one in the beginning.

Why would he need to do either of those things?

if you can get it a little lower i think thats a good deal. i disagree about the lockring and links out the chain....chain dosn't look slack at all.
components arn't great but totally fine for beginning with. i dunno, unless im missing something, and as long as it fits you good, i would say go for it.

I'm confused. Why the need to take some links out of the chain? Looks fine to me.
As for the lockring, while the aluminum formula ones are not top of the line, they certainly do the job. Again, no need to replace what isn't broken.

This is nice man. It would be a really nice starter Fixie and if you're tight on cash I'd say go for it. If you're willing to invest a bit more money in this I'd build my own (because it's crazy fun learning how they work while customizing). Otherwise though, this is a nice looking bike. I've heard good things about Windsors.

im new to fixed gear too but i have a few friends that ride windsors and theyre not happy with them. careful with the frame because they look as though theyre not butted/swaged and i've heard stories of people hitting the frame a lil too hard and the tubes around the stem bending. i would suggest building/converting your own because the learning process is invaluable.

the newer Windsor hours have received more cost cutting.. they don't come with the fsa vero crankset, the nicer pedals/straps on the bike, or a front brake. This seems like a pretty good deal to me

First time I looked at it it looked like the wheel was right at the back of the dropout, my bad. Also I had trouble with my formula lockring, and seeing as how better quality ones are still pretty cheap, I'd always throw something else on if I bought a bike with a Formula. Should have been more specific.
