General Cycling Discussion - Here are some neat Thailand bicycle stamps

I thought you might enjoy these scans of some bicycle related stamps I got in Thailand a couple of years ago. They still use these bicycle taxis in Thailand and other places in SE Asia.

They are really neat. A couple of weeks ago, I was bicycling in China and road alongside a guy who was peddaling a three-wheel with an enclosed carriage in which were two passengers.

That dude was hauling @ss. I mean, he was really truckin'. I bet he maintained a speed of about 12 miles per hour despite that load. I joked with him that his legs were like steam pistons. He got a kick out of it and then seemed to really give it the gas. I couldn't follow him because my friends were lagging behind, so I had to let him pass.

Anyway, here are some stamps for you from Thailand.

Ya know, Mike, I saw some of these "pedicabs" in Savannah, Ga.

(I thought about paying just to let this female "cabby" haul me around... aw, shucks, you know I'm kidding--maybe...) ;)

You know, I have honestly thought of buying one of those pedicabs from SE Asia and sending it home. The freight would be astronomical, though. Plus, my poor family is forgiving enough with my devotion to bicycling.

Think how handy that would be for running errands though; like picking up groceries.:)

um guys... that's really nothing new, here in vegas there are some companies which will be your bike "cabby" to take you up and down the strip... you'll also find them at conventions like comdex and such. :)

VegaCyclist, do the Vegas pedicabs use the SE Asia Cadillacs like on the stamps posted above?

Alphageek: if you plan to use one of these machines when you get old, then you better have strong legs. The weight is specified as 75 to 125 lbs without the rider! Standard is single-gear. Looks like a grown-ups pinewood derby machine - great for rolling downhill.

That thing seems to have two derailleurs :eek:. Are they connected or is it a case of

"1, 2, 3, SHIFT"

I've seen a couple that look similar to the top right stamp. open cab with two seat "couch"
