Foo - Community service in action.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Some of my friends and I joke that if we ever get in trouble their going to have to find something besides community service for punishment since we're already doing that. Here's a picture of one of the more interesting projects we put together last fall. We raised a couple of hundred bucks letting people throw pies at volunteers, and most everyone had a good time doing it too.

Maybe some community service that involves work? We used to get the local magistrates to sentence the HS kids who were given community service to work on the local bike trails.... more than a few of them took up biking & xc running after that!

One of my friends gets calls from those kids, they require a lot more attention than the usual volunteers she deals with.
The first year I got nominated for one of those good citizen awards I lost to a guy who fixes up old bikes and gives them away to kids. He ended his thank you speech by saying he owed it all to AA, and that he'd be "just another drunk" (his words, not mine) without them. I felt pretty good losing to him.
