Honest, I never bragged about it, not here, not anywhere; do a search if you don't believe me. I had gone about two years without a flat, but in less than two months, and the bike being in the shop for five weeks of that time, I've had three flats. The first, four days into August, happened when something on the road slashed the sidewall of my rear tire. The second happened Wednesday, again on my rear tire. It was one of those myterious flats in that, on the road, I couldn't find a cause. Back home I inflated the flatted tube and found a hole right where a spoke would be. I suppose I caused the rim strip to shift when I replaced the slashed tire. The third happened today. I was bombing down a hill on a regular route. Unfortunately, road crews had scraped up a good section of asphalt on each side of a bridge, leaving a drop onto very rough pavement, a bump onto the bridge, another drop, and another bump. This was news to me, and I hit the section much too fast. That last bump bit the rear tire hard--and for that one I could have slowed, but I was enjoying the speed. I am weary of fixing flats, and I wish I could get an hour of uninterrupted riding.
