We just got back from a little Texas tour. We shipped the bike to Austin and rode to Shiner the first day. The route was from googlemaps and they tell you it is a Beta program so you take your chances. We got a little off course but it turned out for the best as the route they chose had us going on County Roads that were mostly dirt. We had to backtrack some and wound up on a busy State Highway that was somewhat unnerving to say the least but no harm no foul. The 80 mile ride originally planned turned out to be 107. When we checked into the Shiner Country Inn (highly recommended) we still had time to make the Brewery before it closed. The AC in the room was set to meat locker and was very welcome after the long ride. The beer was good and hit the spot. The next day we rode to Victoria (50 miles) to my parents house. On the way our rear rack failed and thanks to my obsessive compulsive packing of straps and tools, we managed to make it without the rack causing any damage. Unfortunately we were unable to fix it and there were no replacement racks available. We did get in more riding and went to Cuero but not with gear. Thanks to family we were able to get everything back to Austin. We wound up with around 275 miles for the trip after all. Now to research a better rack system.

Done several SW Tandem Rallies in TX: Austin, Brenham, Waco, LaGrange . . .
TX seems to get a bad rap, but the smaller towns are really "Texas Friendly!"
And, TX BBQ is great . . . every town has a different great way of doin' it!
Glad you enjoyed the trip even with some equipment malfunction!
Pedal on TWOgether!

Congrats on your Texas Tour. If you really want to have some great Texas riding which includes lush green valleys, mountain passes, and beautiful low-humidity weather with plenty of sunshine, come out to West Texas sometime. While I always enjoy travelling and riding in other parts of the country, I always am glad to come home to El Paso.
