This is my Dahon Jetstream XP - what a fantastic bike. Today I spent 2 hours in the central park of Hell_sink_1:). What a joy to ride - suspension, gears, brakes, handling. Name your bike? - I would name her Ripley.

We have a couple of Montagues that we travel with. Good bikes. We got them after our 10 year old Dahons were stolen in Ottawa, Canada in 2004. Those were also good bikes.

Could not identify this bicycle when I got it. Had it painted and replaced some parts. New tires, rims, spokes, pedals and reflector. I just identify this bike as "Sunsilk Pink".

Have been taking Forrest out a good deal to get him ready for a fixed century... I have Schwalbe Marathons on order and hope to get them on next week as they will roll just as fast and further improve what is already a really decent ride.
That... and I won't worry so much about all the glass I have been finding of late.

cobrabyte - 20's are always such a nice find and I have hooked up two people this week with really nice examples.
You have probably already discovered how craptastic the stock brakes are... the long reach bmx brake on my fixed Twenty cost 15.00 and works great with Kool Stop pads (and an alloy front wheel)

My Curve SL '09 loves the spotlight.
Hello all. Just joined this forum, I believe again. I think I joined several years ago but cant remember for sure. LOL
well I bought the Sun folding bike several years ago. I really like it. Matter of fact I bought the semi recumbent Giant REVIVE at the same time. I rode the Revive maybe three times. It has been hanging up in the garage ceiling for years. I need to sell it If I cant find a way to turn it into a TRIKE.
I find as Im getting older I am not as stable as I used to be.
Thanks all

This is my Xootr Swift that has featured on the Swift forum over the last three years. Still pretty standard appart from lower gearing and the addition of a rack and mudguards. I haven't given it a name for some reason but it is by far my favourite bike. As you can see from the two photo's, I like to change the set up every now and again. The top photo is the latest - at least it was until I replaced the 'bar grips and ends with Ergon grips - yesterday!
Well there was this bike that I did not need ,or want ,but it was only £25 with no bids on ebay and .................................................................................................... ..............

tfarhner said it could be done, and I finally got around to trying it. Bromptons can tow kid trailers in a pinch, but I'm not sure I'd want to do it on a regular basis, especially since I'm pulling two instead of one.
I regularly tow a Burley D'Lite with 2 kids on my Dahon Impulse (7 speed with Megarange gearing) Michigan is fairly flat, I guess. I have it directly mounted to the rear hub shaft.

Have you ever had someone ask about your "Clown Bike"? I have always found the smiles and jokes about these "little" bikes one of the perks of riding a folder. I added a 2006 Dahon Mariner D7 to my stable of folders and was out test riding it today when I came across Ronald McDonald during the closing day of the Savannah Jazz Festival.
I couldn't pass this chance by, so I asked him to pose on my Clown Bike. I thought everyone might enjoy this photo.

This one is not the folder, but if you go to csepel bicycles it shows the folder version. ( I think they just cut the frame and weld in the hinge. )

Apologies this one doesn't fold - I now have three that do. Thought you might be interested in the modifications anyway as they are applicable to all Raleigh Twenty based bikes. I also have a Sinclair A bike - that I bought to see how well it worked. It just didn't. This one I built for my girlfriend - then someone pinched my saddle and I had to ride this to work - been on it ever since. Then bought three more. This one has a Nexus seven speed, I've got a folder with a flip flop hub, another with a Shimano three speed and another with original Sturmey three speed and chrome rims. Tyres are 27 x 451 and ok for 115 psi so fairly quick. Gearing on low side - it'll get up anything but you have to coast down hill. This has a TA Specialites BB spindle with the original bearings and cups - I cut 3mm off the shell on the non-drive side. Suntour Superbe Pro cranks and chainwheel. It's now got Eggbeaters. Original bag, rack, saddle and calipers. Photos of folders as I finish them.. This bike likes to pop out to get milk. My road bike used to hate that.

It looks tough with those black rims - lovely contrast to the trad champagne paintwork. I love how you've kept the white seat and white plastic grips.
As a point of interest to other UK twenty fans- where'd you get the black 451 rims? In my experience they're as rare as hen's teeth.
Look forward to seeing more of it - and perhaps the other *3* folders you have in the pipeline - maybe they deserve their own thread?
No accounting for taste! Love every thing, but the white seat and grips!

This clown bike (strida) is my daily ride and I find it rides soo much smoother and better than my full size bike I can't even go back to a standard bike. The convenience and small size is what sold me on this, I Basically ride 6km to work fold it up and shove it under my desk. It's initially expensive but it's basically paying for itself from not having to pay a monthly parking ($175 cdn a month!). I chose this over the others cause it was such a weird looking bike and I'm never one to conform with how a normal bike should look.
Pic is bad cause I took it with my Iphone at work.
Not sure if I've posted this before or not?
I saw a Moulton MK3at a flee-market yesterday and passed on it - it needed alot of work. After thinking about it further, I should have snatched it up...aw well.

Ive finally learned how to attach pics. This pic was taken on a dull day indoors with cheap camera so bit fuzzy.Pic taken with saddle at full height.
Its my Brompton s/s (S1E) with B17 saddle,Allo Haber stem extender,Ergon2 grips and S-bag mounting block installed.
The Allo Haber extender gives 2" of extension in any direction you put it. I have it straight up at this point due to sore back.
ddez,
Your bike is a piece of art. I have recently acquired a S2-E and I am waiting for the Allo Haber stem extender to arrive. I might go with Bull horns, but if that doesn't work for me, the ergon2 grips are my next choice. At the end, our bikes will look like two sexy sisters!

Thanks, cant wait to see yours done. You can really stretch out with the extender. You will of course need to use longer cables. I used Jagwire Ripcord, very smooth, could swear it stops better with them on. Cables are compressionless. Ill be watching for updates on yours.

Great, another Reach just like mine :thumb: I have done about 2000 miles, the rear Primo Comet is on its way out, will replace with Schwalbe Duranos (not much choice in the 451 wheel size). I don't want Comets again as they are not very good in the wet IMO. At about 200 miles I added a second chain ring (42T), etc. as I found the gearing too tall in the hilly Cornish countryside but I have had no issues with the OEM brakes, now fitted with Koolstop Salmon blocks which work well and I am informed will reduce rim wear. Following Sheldon Brown's guidance on chain replacement I have just replaced the chain: I fitted a Wipperman Intrax 808 which works well.
I absolutely love the bike now, it rides so well and the handling and responsiveness are so good, 60+ miles rides are easy. Mine has mudguards and the rear rack, on which I use a Carradice rack pack, and the only other mod is the Brooks B17 Narrow saddle I have put on it which is superb. My last small wheeler was a Moulton APB and whisper it but I think the Pacific is the better bike ;).

My Dahon 3 speed from 1986
Nice looking ride. I just received my red 3spd yesterday (bought on ebay) and have a few questions.
What changes have you made to your bike?
Is there a max height to raise the seat tube? I do not see any markings on my tube to indicate min/max.
What is the recommended oil for the rear hub and what's the service interval? My bike is a bit noisy in the rear when pedaling and a little stiff in changing gears; I believe it's low on oil. I'll be taking it to LBS after a more thorough inspection and cleaning.
FYI, My hub is marked 86-5; the serial # is lightly etched inside the fold hinge but it's almost unreadable.

You should post your questions along with a photo of your bike on the Dahon forum. There is a lot of good Dahon experience there.
http://www.dahon.com/forum/index.php
- Max seat height - I don't remember if the older seatposts have max marks on them or not. It may be in the manual. There is a link to download it on the Dahon forum if you search around the posts.
- The best reference for servicing Sturmey Archer hubs is the Sheldon Brown website. Just google to find it.
- You may need to service the rear wheel and crank bearings also.
- I think from your hub markings you would have a 1986 0r 1987 bike.
