Nice color.
I like the similarities/differences between your folding drop bike and 65er's Twenty.

You should send your photos to this Raleigh Twenty website
http://raleightwenty.webs.com/
Forrest will be the August poster boy at the site... seems the folks there are quite impressed with the recent modifications I have done.
Besides adding some much needed stopping power I think the new canti brakes add a classic touch to the bike... swapping brakes uaully requires a few hand tools... but this job required a torch. :)

Thank you gentlemen! Both of you got very nice ones too!
I'm now debating whether to lose the smaller chain ring and just go with a 56t ring, and add a chainguard ( I'm still figuring out how to make one) .

We will have something in common then. My unmodified Twenty was the May Playmate of the Month for that site.

kingfish... my fiancée rides a very similar but slightly modified Twenty.
She loves it but tonight was asking me when her bike was going to go under the knife... err... torch to get new brakes fitted.
It looks like I will be doing a lot of this kind of work from here on in as I know a lot of Twenty owners here who'd like to modernize their bikes with better brakes and other little fittings.
Am actually in the process of designing a new mini velo modeled along the lines of the Twenty but spec'd for modern spacings and standardized threadings.

65er, I remember seeing your ladies ride as well. I also have been following your mini velo thread. Someday (who knows when) I still want to do a longtail with my Twenty. I have most of the parts, just have other projects to do first.

Another Nova, converted to single-speed (using a magic gear of 53/15). Custom "landscape" decal/paint scheme. Great for around-town commuting but I might install a 3-speed hub for longer rides in the countryside.

A little more work with the torch before the tear down, final brazing work, and refinishing happens... should be the most tricked out Twenty ever by the time I am done. :)

Bought a unique and old folding bike from a fellow local bike flipper today. It needs a little welding work at a couple of key points, so who knows when I will get to it.
It is a late 50s DNB Porta Fold
You can see a minty one of these at this link:
http://www.foldingcyclist.com/DNB-Porta-Fold-Cycle.html
Mine looks like this:

I think you should name her "Jenny" (as in Forest Gump's girlfriend).
The DNB has (or will have again) a unique double fold. The handlebar stem is very unusual and folds forward.
Here is the 1958 ad for this bike.
"The first entirely new bike in 50 years!"

Hi all,
First post here on the folding thread. My main folding ride is a fixed gear Dahon boardwalk with mag wheels (below). My first folding bike ever was a Dahon knock-off a Yeah. I bought it used for cheap because I wanted to give folding bikes a try before making the plunge. It rode and it handled well and that convinced me of building my folding fixie. I Like the bike but had to thin the heard so I sold it a couple weeks back.
I also own a Dahon Mountain Classic and Bridgestone Travzone that I just got not too long ago. I am actually looking for info on it. It seems to be quite rare as I barely find anything online about it except from the guy who owns one in the Philipines.

Still haven't polished a thing and in looking closely could not see that the bike has any visible drive wear at all.
I just picked up this little Graziella last weekend ,I haven't torn it down yet.

I'm loving that rear pod thingy on the back...Is it water proof? I didn't see anything on the downtube website that resembled it and I can't quite make out what it says on the side...Where can I get my paws on one? Thanks.
Kingfish, I like that Graziella tandem just fine. And I thought mine was rough. :-)
I gave my little Graziella's chrome an oxalic bath and new grease in the headset and BB. I may need to have a few bits re-chromed. I'll leave the paint and decals alone.

Hi all.
169844I currently have 2 bikes. My main bike is a Sunlova folding mountain bike with 20" wheels.
Its a very cheap bike and has been gradually modified since I bought it a couple of months ago.
Then I have my restoration project, a Cresswell Fold-it (picture from ebay where I bought it for £6).

Here's my first folding bike...the one that got me interested. I call it "Goner" because well...that's what it's about to be. I came across it for a song and will flip it on craigslist as I have a full size mountain bike already and want something smaller.

just got one (and i never thought i would). it makes so much sense for super-dense urban environments; i mean, it also makes sense in other places, but definitely in high-density populations, like Shanghai, which is where i am now (although i hail from the city of Bike Friday).
Here in all of it's underwhelming glory, a Giant Conway 1.0, with a really fantastic OGK babyseat on the front. Total price for all of this (including babyseat), new? I paid US$130.
Some lovely noteworthy aspects: 1) the chain has zero factory lube or grease, and this is absolutely normal; 2) rear brake is a drum, front brake is dodgy (also the norm); it's supposedly about 25lbs stock, maybe 28lbs with the babyseat; 3) although it is single speed, i can beat every 125cc motorcycle off the line, and generally still pass every electric bike at cruising speed (the 125cc motorcycles eventually pass me; i just don't have the gearing).
pure, unmitigated fun to ride in a megacity (and they'll hate me for this, but Shanghai is more bicycle friendly than Eugene, OR; they're simply more bicycles, so drivers are more aware, if still discourteous; but hey, i'm used to it from riding in the US).

Basil got a little more utilitarian... a customer gave me a Wald basket and I only have one bike that would accommodate one of these.
Since I am a rider and not much of a folder this should work out great... my laptop case fits in the basket perfectly as do a few shopping bags.

PS... The Ideale 92D is a great improvement over the Wright's saddle and really goes with the bike.
Long time lurker. First time poster. Bought this Fuji / Marlboro / Redlof folder on Craigslist for $40.

I call it "The Krumpler" :D
I was not in the market for a bike at the time, let alone a folder. However, after learning from a bit of research that this beauty was a prize in a 1990s Marlboro promo, I deemed it the perfect impulse buy to celebrate my one year anniversary of quitting smoking. I threw on a spare wheelset I had (Rhyno Lites) & some cruiser bars, ditched the derailers and voila -- Now I only huff and puff up hills.

Hi im a big fan of folding bikes currently i own 6 bikes (4 folders and 2 non-folders)
1. Dahon Vitesse P18
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/x807/shot.jpg
This is one big mad folder i have spend a fortune during my summer to mod this bike, crazily quick acceleration and response.
modded items include:
-Whole set of shimano ultegra's transmission set everything is 6700 series, except the crankset belongs to 6601 (to match the colour:lol:) and the gears belongs to SARM?
-Token creamic Bottom bracket
-Token derailleur creamic wheels
-KMC Holo transmission chain
-Cycle seven red hub ballbearing 406 wheel set
-SRP seatpost
-TAT front extention bar holders
-Shimano deore XT shifters
-Panaracer 1.25 performance tires (really bad in the rain:()
2. BROMPTON M3R 1993
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/x807/IMG_0216.jpg
This Brompton means alot to me, it has all my childhood memories. The first time i ever know how to ride a bike (without supportive wheels) etc. It has a long histroy of 18 years?
Bought by my dad back at 1993 as a encouragement to learn biking ( too bad that time i was not intrested and too hard to control) It is also my first folding bike
People usually do not believe this bike is 18 years old when they seen the real thing. Basiclly most of the parts are still original except new sets of tires reto-fit rear clamp and the lovely b17 special
Suprisingly this Brompton has a special history on its own, it is not build in the uk, but manfactured by Neobike in Taiwan. If you have ever read the wikipedia about brompton you could see there
is a special partnership between neobike and brompton in early 90s, Fortunately i think this belongs to first badge so the sa gear hub is still made in england and did not suffer any qc fault.
It has also a very unique colour which i have not seen in any brompton before glossy black with a touch of shiny coating, Now this bikes sits in the garage as i have came bk to uk .
3. Red Brompton M3L (2003)
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/x807/IMG_0541.jpg
Despite is 7 years old it look alot worst condition than the one above, and it looks really tired when i take this bromie home, it was left in someones shelter backyard for years
I feel so sad for the bike until one day i decide to ask the neighbour to sell it to me at a "happy price". After i get it back i have been spending time to renew it as much as possible
after some TLC it is now looks much better but there is still plenty of improvements. Now this belongs to my gf since she doesnt like my newly accquire M3R
4. Black Brompton M3R (2010)
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/x807/IMG_0545.jpg
Accquirred very recently M3R standard matt black looks so boring lol! i got to do a lot of modification to it in near future
x807, great brommies! Looks like you take real good care of them. What part of the far east are you?

Thx coolio! im from Hong Kong but i study in the uk. I really like my bromies, i treat them really good and is a greatest invention of folding bikes in the history, nothing folds like this neat, the mechanism is beautiful.
the first 2 bikes are now stored in the garage and the next 2 which is in the uk i take it for a ride once in a while.

Hi All! Just joined the Folding Bike Club today (as well as this forum). Just acquired a Dahon Mariner 26" (circa 2002) in super shape. Going to add a quick switch release hub and, perhaps, some folding pedals. How else are these gorgeous bikes modded for greater utility and fun?
