:-) It's a bit less quick and compact, but i think it's a fair exchange for the inprovement in the ride...

Well well. I had one identical to this for about 4 days. It is a model only available in China. The seller sold it as a Jetstream P8 (he didn't know better); I was disappointed enough to send it back after working out I would be better off getting a Jetstream P8 than upgrading this one.
Some basic info such as model number and a pic can be found on the Chinese Dahon site. The frame is identical to that of the Dahon Jetstream XP, loaded with lesser componentry. So if you spent big, you'd end up with an XP.

That's what I thought when I bought it. Got it off ebay for a steal, it had hardly been ridden, so I spending on upgrades was part of the plan. I made the mistake of just buying the perfect bike once, oh those boring winter nights with nothing to tweak or fiddle with :-(

didn't want to spend a lot of money for a bike to use just around campgrounds or short bike trail rides. Got this from RV toyoutlet. advertised as a folding cruiser steel frame 20" 30# 5speed (sunrun) bike.
It did require minor adjustments of front brake (band brake on rear) and fenders. I trued the front wheel, added lights, bottle holder, bell, tightened all bolts and swapped out the seat for a 'comfort' seat (no horn). Tires are no name brand and will probably need replacing after a year or so.
I am using the box it came in for storing it in my truck folded.
quality of welds, paint, components look OK. made in China-of course.

I have two folders, one is a bike friday new world tourist with drop handelbars and is white. The other is the Dahon Solo from last year, had no choice on the color as it only came in beige/tan, I like it though and is my main commuter/ice cream ride bike, great single speed!!

Modifications include a Deore XT short cage rear dera:) illeur, SPD pedals, an:) d 105 cranks. I run Stelvios in the Spring, Summer, and Fall and the stock tires in the Winter. Ortieb panniers coming. Will post the modified Downtube (Birdy cranks and BB, MKS pedals, and Marathon Racer tires) soon.
Hi, I am very new here (unless my 68...) and came on bikeforum because am' waiting for brand new Birdy (City premium) witch is in Vélectrisation way...
Means he becomes a bruschless hubmotor in front weehl, with a very innovative kokam lipo battery.
Cycling enjoys wealthy, but better with vélectrised back wind....
Pictures later, and tests after pictures...

Well, I've been hanging out in the folder forum, and lusting after a folding bicycle for quite a while. I finally took the plunge and bought my first folding bicycle back in December. Many thanks to all who knowingly, or unknowingly provided useful information and motivation for this bike!
The bike, yet to be named, is a Bike Friday New World Tourist. It's a straight up touring bike. It's shown below without racks, in the snow that is keeping me from getting out and enjoying it!!
The pedals and saddle are not final. The old-style Dura-Ace pedals are placeholders for Speedplay Frogs. I have a B-17 Champion Special for it, but it is currently being broken in on my commuter.

has anyone (else) got a F1 ?
it is full size with 26" wheels. 1st one delivered was damaged & I sent it back. second one upon examination had buckled wheel, gear changers wrong, more or less all parts badly fitted, after 15 miles cranks were loose. says a lot about the staff that assembled them. however I have now stripped & rebuilt it (well most of it anyway) and its pretty good for the price.
dont know about taking it on the bus though as the bus services want them to be stored in an overhead locker.
have really got a thing now about folders, looking for 20" wheel next I think, or something that will fit into a laptop bag !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My brand new Bianchi Fretta, sadly no real miles on it yet but I love it. All standard Capreo components at the moment, the only change is the MKS removable pedals. Now I just need to locate the source of the horrendous rattle coming from the front end.

Most likely the V-brakes. I have seen some Birdy users who use rubber bands on the brakes to diminish the rattling. However, I doubt you will totally eliminate the noise...
Nice bike by the way.

Thanks for the hint - it does seem to be coming from the right front brake arm.

I recently acquired this 1969 Raleigh Twenty w/Sturmey Archer 3speed.I got it from a really nice old retired couple. They had heard that I collect old bikes and gave it to me.The bike is absolutely spotless. Not a blemish.Other than having the wrong tire on it, it's mint. The picnic basket detaches.Really fun to ride.Just gotta change the front tire. The red bmx tire just doesn't cut it.The Raleigh Twenty is a SOLID road bike. You can't put a Strida in the same category.

Two days old. The squishy saddle has been replaced by a comfortable Brooks B.17.
The plastic pedals are next to go. No, the front panniers don't affect handling much
& the bike is better balanced with extra weight in the front to off-set my flabby butt
in the back. :D

Ooh! That's pretty! How easy is it to remove the front panniers when you want to fold?

It's real easy - the clamps snap open & the bags lift off the rack. See Carradice's C System Hooks here...

True! But seriously, who would? The Strida is a great FOLDING bike; you can't put the R20 in the same category.
I have them both, and have done my commute on both. The R20 is wonderful bike, vintage cool, versatile, and it's a pleasure to ride to the train station. And I CAN take it on a rush-hour commuter train, how cool is that! But I don't take it on the train very often; on the train I take, there are only two seats per rail car where I can sit with my folded R20, and handicapped persons have priority seating at those spots.
The Strida does not ride as well, is that a surprise? But it's fine for my 2.5-mile ride through Manhattan. Once folded, I can put it on the overhead rack on the train and I can sit anywhere I want. By my estimation the train car seats about 240 people, two R20's, and maybe 20 Stridas, all comfortably.
I get on the train, stow the Strida overhead, and forget about it. I can relax, sleep, or read. I can't forget about the R20 on a crowded train; it's always in the way, so I can't fully relax. Yes, I'd rather ride an R20 than a Strida. But I'd rather ride a train with a Strida.

What to call it, what to call it? I have it,Call it Red! Of course it won't call you dumb--- or threaten to put it's pedal up your butt but that is a good thing. You wouldn't like it if it acted like Red Foreman from that 70's show. And ,yes of course you can put a Brooks saddle on it.It has a standard seatpost clamp .I would suggest a B67.

I got mine at a Sharper Image store since there are no bike shop dealers in my home state of Massachusetts and I wanted to see the bike and test ride it before buying. If you're in NY I recommend David Lam at Bfold.

I believe it's early 60s and all original.

I have one just like the one in post #339. The name I'm considering for it is "Pound Puppy". Anybody know where the serial number is located? I have yet to find it, but the SA hub is dated 7-87. Hard to ride it without giggling, it's just so doggone cute!
