I'm looking to build a SS/Fixed with this frame I picked up.
What's the absolute cheapest way i can get this going? I'm prowling for super cheap donor bikes I can use but I really just need wheels as that's half the battle.
I see several $100 wheelsets for starters, but are there any other options? I can fit 27" wheels.
I'm thinking I'll throw on beefy cross tires for starts, and then see if I like it. I have center pull brakes for it.

I like the lugs, and would initially keep the paint.

You'll probably have to spend at least $150...for wheelset and crankset.
Cheapest way is go to your local bike co-op to go through their bins of used parts.
The only option is either wait for some sweet deal on CL or buy something like this (http://www.velomine.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=87_172_183&products_id=344) for ~$100.

Oh yea, you'll need cog+lockring+freewheel, which will probably cost you another $50.

Well you'll need to get another brake if you plan to get a much easier available, therefore cheaper 700C wheelset...
You cannot use current cantilever brakes on this bike... the fork/ frame does not have the hardware... you currently have those vintage "hybrid" brake levers, which have been superseded with today's current more compact brake calipers.

In my opinion this should be a donor bike considering there's no BB and cranks... not to mention its made of hi - tensile tubing (I have one that looks exactly like it at my father's house, cept its 100% stock even with cheapo foam brooks saddle).... it would be another story if you had a parts bin with the parts needed...

I do have a parts bin, just need to re-thread the BB. This has centerpull Weinmann brakes (not cantis) which will reach to 700c wheels.
Yes, it is hi-ten, which is why it's relegated to super cheapo build status.
I think I'll either keep the old brakes or go with an aero set in my bin. Not yet decided to go flat bar on it yet but i have parts for that too.
Looks like $100 wheels is the biggest cost.
