I have 1998 Kona Kapu with all Ultegra components and for some reason the caps (stamped with the word "Ultegra") on the shifters are loose and rattle constantly, especially on bumpy surfaces. Is there anything I can do to stop the rattling? Can I just get new caps and snap them on? Thanks.

Pop off the caps and tighten the screws underneath them that hold the clip that the cap snaps onto.

Hi
Ultegra shifters seem always to wear and develop a rattle. It's usually the lever not the cap at fault. Replace with Dura-Ace and ride silent but poor. Our club runs are a rattle-fest at times as most people seem to have Shimano fitted! If the caps on top of the lever comes loose, a blob of low-melt glue from a glue gun works for us in the workshop or Loctite on the screws and a double-sided sticky pad underneath if you haven't lost them.

This was a particular problem with the first gen Ultegra shifters, that came out about
'98. Subsequent versions have been less prone to this. Steve
