I went to Home Depot this weekend to get lumber to build practice barriers. There were a couple of guys in the next checkout aisle buying PVC for practice barriers.

Only six days until Pain on the Peak.

I have one PVC barricade I built up a few weeks ago. I feel silly romping around my [public] front yard hopping over it.

I did 2 run-ups on my driveway sat. It's less than 2 weeks before the first practice race.

I'm in big trouble.

I took some old 6” x 6” landscape timbers and stacked them 3 high making two barriers. My house sits on 2 acres that has some terrain, trees and a pond. I have an impromptu course around the house, onto the cul-de-sac then into the back yard and around the pond, garden and picnic grove with fire pit. It takes about 2.5 minutes to complete a lap of the technical route. The barriers are located right near the pond on a flat section of bank. The neighbors already think I’m a little nuts due in part that, at 57 yrs old, I would rather race bikes than drink beer with them on weekends. They have threatened to visit and drink beer while I practice the mad skillz needed in cross racing. I just might take them up on the threats and even and build a ramp over the fire pit.

That'd be great. You could practice taking beer hand-ups. :thumb:

You'll feel even more silly when you trip on one in a race and lose 3-4 spots.

PVC barriers FTW!

Also - finally got the team out for some cross practice. lots of fun. We had a small clinic for those who had never done it before and then we hit one of our local bandit cross locations for full on 40 minute race. Kick. Ass.

Stocking up on Caution Tape at the local HW store. I always get a funny look from the cashier when I have about 15-20 rolls of 1000' yellow Caution Tape. I've been asked if I work for the local PD or plan on committing many crime scenes or doing some Halloween decorating.

Bike racing on the weekends and drinking beer are not mutually exclusive.

Buy those neighbors some cow bells, invite some cycling friends over and have your own race series!

OK sign me up!! Sounds like more fun than watching my neighbors get sloppy drunk on the weekend.
