Introductions, eh? Well, I live in a little town called Gardnerville, NV, which is about 10 miles south of Carson City, and about 30 minutes drive "over the hill" from Lake Tahoe. I work at one of Tahoe's casinos as a pit boss, and yes, I have seen a lot regarding what people will do for money/drinks. Sometimes pretty, sometimes not.

I just celebrated my 7th wedding anniversary, and no, I don't have the 7-year itch, although working at a casino, yes, I do see a lot (nudgenudgewinkwinkknowwhatImean?).

There is one part that still hurts deeply to this day. At 7:35 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2003, my wife and I lost our 4-year-old daughter, Alaina Sage Lester. If you want to know more, email me and I'll fill you in. Let's just say that the pain I still feel to this day is a pain I would not wish on anyone for any reason.

I am the moderator of a listserv for parents of adult children with disabilities, and we have a lot of pain that we share together. Some of our members have children who have died, also. My oldest son was permanently paralyzed from the neck down at age 21, and my youngest son was born profoundly mentally handicapped, and was later also paralyzed, although he did recover about 95%.

I share some of your feelings, and I hope that bicycling will be one way of helping to resolve some of your issues. I am still in the "resolving" process even after 37 years. It never really goes away. Physical activity helps a lot, though!

As a father of two daughters, 25 and 22, my heart goes out to you. My oldest is developmentally disabled and lives in a group home, so I am painfully aware of the challenges life has to offer. You will never "get over it" but you will learn to live with it.
In May of this year I fullfilled one of my dream rides and that was to circle Lake Tahoe. I took my time, did it alone, on a beautiful day right at a storm break and it was fantastic. I cannot wait for the next time. I am sure you have done it dozens of times right? It is not too difficult (even for a 50 year old) but I learned something the hard way: Do NOT eat a big lunch at Red Hut mid way...that second part of the ride after a 4 egg omelet and pecan waffle was a little tough! lol
