Foo - I measured 4 and 1/2 inches this morning!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
That is a new record for me, but I have not been doing this for very long, really only since my last birthday, when I got the rain gauge.
We got almost 5 inches of rain in the last 24 hours, as the remains of tropical storm Hermine move north across Texas.
Do any of y'all track rainfall? What is the most you have seen in 24 hours?

I was camping on a river island and we spent the evening under a very large tarp and drinking. The river level rose from about 2.5 feet to 9 feet overnight. My tent was less than three feet from the water's edge in the morning.
Technically speaking, my boat sank during the night. It was pulled up on shore and the rain it caught pinned the stern down while the water rose over the sides. I rescued it about 3am, before the water rose above the level of the outboard.
I could post pictures of the before and after, but most of the "before" pictures are not suitable for this site.
4 1/2 inches seems a bit large for you jeff.
We are expecting anywhere from 3-8" in the next 48hrs since the remnants of the storm are parking over us.

They were saying 8 - 10 inches on TV last night here in Austin. That storm had a nasty tail that just kept the rain coming through most of the night. If my pool is any gauge (and I guess it is), I had to drain off about 8 inches to keep it from spilling it's banks! Good riddance Hermine! That was just nasty.

It's all about duration. Up here, we sometimes go non-stop for 2 weeks.

Do you listen to Sting albums while doing this?

jsharr, you need to wonder down the road aways and get a new picture of that babbling brook you showed us,bet it's not babbling now.
We drove by it in the pouring rain this AM on the way to school. The creek was out of it's banks and the water was a good 8 feet deep where I was standing in the last bass pic. Will try to get a shot of it tonight on the way home.

Nah. But apparently if it goes much beyond 2 weeks we're supposed to see a doctor.

Normal flow for the spring. In the summer it is hardly a trickle over the falls.

wow...hope it doesn't get too bad there.
Parts of the Dallas area are having some flooding issues, esp the low lying areas. Our neighborhood is very hilly and there will not be any problems. Austin and San Antonio are having some really bad flooding I hear.

And even more tragically, the low water crossings of the MUP along the Trinity River in Fort Worth are FLOODED!

Does this all mean it's 4 1/2" from the ground?

I live in So Cal... generally the rain fall during the rainy season is around 5 inches...TOTAL!
No sense measuring rain fall... it only gets depressing...:(

I bet this was all caused by your fishing. You didn't really throw back the little ones, did you?
Glad to hear we're getting rain back home. I left the sprinklers off for the most of the summer and my wife calls and tells me all the plants are dying. Turning the water on a couple weeks ago may be too little, too late. But at least all this rain will fill up the lakes and the pond in the backyard so they'll be topped off when I finally get home at the end of the month.

Don't ask, don't tell.
Another 4 and a half inches since this AM. Lots of flooding and then the tornado sirens came on. We lost power for a few hours and read books to the boys until it got too dark. I pulled out the lantern and I soon as I got it lit, you guessed it, the power came back on. One small tree branch down in my front yard and nothing else. Tornados skipped us, but at least three touched down in and around Dallas tonight.

What I want to know is did you ride in it? I've always wanted to ride in a hurricane.

I got home from work yesterday around 6pm, and was sitting at my computer in front of the window on the 23rd floor when the tornado sirens went off. I turned on the TV to local news, and learned that a tornado had been spotted. My wife wasn't home yet, so I called her on her cell, & told her about the tornadoes. She asked where they were, I listened to the news report, and told her one had been spotted at I-35 & Regal Row. I asked her where she was, she said she was 2 exits south of that. She got lucky.

The one and only time I was in LA it rained all three days, non stop. And it was a bitter 68 degrees, too. :(
