I've got a beach cruiser with a T3 shifter. Can not get it to engage all three gears. Followed SRAM's online tune doccument and still can not get first gear (I think 1st). I shift into 3rd and adjust with plastic barrel to no avail. In 3rd and pedaling hub makes clicks while in rotation. In the next gear it is silent and then when indicator is forced into 1st ratio stays same as 2nd. Have tried tension tight and loose and still only two usable gears. What must I do the set it up to run all three speeds?

How old is the bike and have you ever had all three gears?

It could well be that the hub has a internal problem but the only SRAM repair facility I am aware of in the USA is Aarons Cycles in Seattle and they want more to do an IGH repair than a new 3 speed Shimano wheel would cost you.

When adjusting tension do you mean with the barrel adjuster on the shifter or with the plastic click thingy that holds the shifter rod that goes into the hub?

with the plastic click thingy that holds the shifter rod that goes into the hub? Yes. Have not touched shifter. Thought all adjustment is at barrel / rod. Seems disconnected (zero tension) it will default to third and then as chain is pulled out of hub changes to lower gear(s). I am only able to get 3rd and one other speed. SRAM's adjustment guide makes no mention of any other adjustment points. Is there something I am missing?

Brand new bike.

Unless you bought it on line the dealer you bought it from should be able to help you get things adjusted properly.

Oh, ok. Because not being able to engage first gear is almost always a lack of cable tension. +1 for bringing it back where you bought it to have it looked over.
