So I stripped my cranks and bb and I need to replace them. I know the sugino is the best quality, but I'm broke and want to know how The others compare and if I should just buy one of the others. I can get the srams for 77 at my lbs, that seems like the best value. Thanks for your help.

EighthInch (http://www.cyclingcloseouts.com/Products/EighthInch-Crankset-in-Black__Eighthinch_Crankset.aspx) is pretty nice too.

$77 for a s100 1.1 is not that great of a deal, you could get it for a lower price here (http://www.amazon.com/SRAM-165mm-Black-PowerSpline-Cranks/dp/B002BBV13G).

That 77 is with the sram bb included.

The Tec 9's I have are a decent set of crank arms and chainwheel. Just me, but the real difference is in the bottom bracket, the chain gear wheel and arms are a personal preference for style.

tec9's come on vilanos. having never tried them i wont say anything. however, these are the ones i have owned.

sugino rd's - got these for cheap, work well.
sugino messenger's - messenger ring is really just style
eighthinch - conversion i had. pretty good looking, well polished and just 50 bucks. some people bought them for 30 the likeathon week.
lasco - not the prettiest, works fine and bb is quiet. never owned, tried.
sram s300 - sexy, slightly lower end than omnium but still has the external bb. works great for street riding. never owned, tried.
sugino 75 - extremely stiff, extremely expensive. occasional bb repack to prevent ticking.
tec9 - no experience
o8/pake - see eightinch
sram s100 - save the money and get the s300, no experience.

edited with new info below.
sugino 75/sugino zen racing - very expensive chainring. very stiff, too, actual noticeable difference. looks decent.

Crappy chainrings will be very eccentric and your chain tension will be a mess.

Pay the $77 for the SRAM and have the LBS install it for you.

I personally try to support my local small businesses. I'm lucky I live in downtown Chicago where shops have a little more competition

Find an old road crank on Craigslist and save up for the ones you want. Or check with your LBS to see if they have anything used and go through them for the S300's.

I have both Pake and Origin-8 cranksets on a couple bikes, and they're actually quite good for the price. I hear Eighthinch sets are just as good, and the same price range. All 3 are available in a bunch of colors for those that care, and black or silver for those that don't lol.

They are all the same crank, except Origin-8 decided to pay to get the colors. I think the EighthInch are a little cheaper, but are just fine.

It's funny that you speak so definitively when you're wrong? They're not all the same. All are low-end entry level and similarly price, $50-60 or so, but not the same. I have the Pake on my bike and Origin-8 on my girl's and both the crank arms and spider are different. Can't speak for the Eighthinch one since I haven't seen it in person, and unlike you, I'm not gonna talk out my ass.

Origin8's are different. Eighthinch used to sell the origin8 spec ones that even said "origin8" up untill a while ago. The eighthinch ones now are the same as the BrevM cranks and the pakes.

[I believe] Origin8's are 110bcd. EI/Pake/BrevM are 130.

Origin-8 has a rebranded Bulletproof BMX crank that's 110bcd, which you don't see often. The popular colored track ones are 130.
