im going to run ( park race) my hyrid which has clincher 700x28's, should I put some 34's on it before sunday.

You'd very likely be better off with wider tires, but how much difference depends on the type of course, conditions, and what kind of tires you have on now. It may be you could get by rolling what you have for the first one, to make sure you're going to stick with it before you go spend some money. It might make for a miserable 45 minutes.

I'm guessing that your 28's have a relatively smooth surface. That's probably not what you want. The best tire for the race depends on the course, but something CX-specific with an all-around tread would probably be good. At this point, I guess your options are limited, but I would definitely go with 34's if you have them and they fit. Anything with knobs will be OK. Without knobs...get ready to slide.

I heard that rookies should use mud tires on any course until their bike handling skills improve. Not sure if it is true or not.
