Dear Stepfam,
Just got notice of another "epic" ride, 136 mi, for Sept 18th.
See the ride route here. (http://tinyurl.com/29ofwj9)
I'm tempted to do this but I'm confused about the pie part. I don't think the organizers are aware of the international pie ride event, so I doubt if they will have any available at the 3 rest stops. SAG vehicles will be on call, but I doubt if they will be delivering PIE.
And how much pie? One piece? Two? A whole pie?
I'm so confused.
Can you help? Post a pie chart perhaps? :innocent:
Signed,
Pieless in paradise.
Well I'm not stap, however, "pieless in paradise" is an oxymoron!

Does it have to be an American pie?

I could MAYBE do that time IN MY CAR! lol.
And as for the climb, I think the major climb is mounting and dismounting the bike.
And Garilia, yes, American Pie. Apple, as I recall. Warm. :innocent:

I Think that as you are accomplished "Hill" rider now- you ought to carry some advantage for the downhill bits. Instead of the high carb Diet the week before that most of have for our hilly 100 milers- I think you ought to go on a Pie diet. You will gain weight but by the end of the ride you will have lost your advantage. So take the scales with you and check weight after the ride. Replace the lost weight with Pie and I think you will be OK.
But the variety of Pie will be important. You know that Blueberry is the ultimate- and you should be getting somewhere Near that. By now you should be up to Berry pie with custard or even Rhubarb and Strawberry. I am afraid that I am a bit behind with my training and have the problem of the "Backup" Pie to take just in case I can't find a decent Pie shop in London on the day. So the wife is making me a Gooseberry pie for the weekend to see if it is up to standard. Only for training you understand.

Ah, um... I don't think there are any downhills on the ride. So much for that advantage.
The clarification on the pie issue is much appreciated. I find the pie chart most informative. It proves the point that "a picture is worth 1,000 bites of pie" or something like that.
Back to the training regiment. Apple tonight.

I need another ruling!! Let me know if I should post this in "Training and Nutrition"
Do 2 pieces of pie the night before a big ride qualify as "carbo loading?" (please say "yes", please say "yes")
So many questions!

I'm thinking that if you were to fabricate an extension, similar to aerobars, in front of your bike and put an entire pie onto that, it might significantly improve your average speed.
It's worth a try.

What about cream pies or whipped cream? What about a la mode?

Tried it but I need a bigger Pie. Now I know why TT's are so popular169236
And real Pie has a Pastry base- plenty of carbs in that but you may need plenty of slices- or one big one- to count as Carbo loading.
Be sure to wear your cycling bibs guys.

I've always tried to adhere to the one piece per mile formula!!!!! Just a tad less if it's a cream pie......

Hey, misery loves company. Where I currently live and ride is referred to as "The Lowcountry" and we too use bridges for climbs.

This is the only serious, and I say that very ironically, climb for several hundred miles.

The best part is that it's not a legal crossing. God Bless the GADOT
