Hi all,
I have recently decided that I wanted to get a bicycle. I'm definitely a clydesdale being 6' and 265 lbs. I was at one point up to 282 lbs and don't want to go there again. I used to weigh around 175 lbs six years ago and would like to get back to 200 lbs eventually. I used to run cross country in high school and ride my old bike relentlessly. I also ran the Boston Marathon once and came in toward the back. I have had asthma for most of my life but it has gotten worse in the past few years.

I have been looking for a new bike as I don't want to use my old Magna bicycle. That thing is a death trap. I have been leaning toward getting a Novara Portal bicycle but wanted people's opinions on it. I love REI because of their customer service and most of their products seem very good. I don't need a full suspension bicycle because I don't like extreme trails, just mild bumpy ones as well as a good amount of street riding. Is this bike okay for my needs? The $400 cost is about at my limit but I have tried the bike and it seems that I fit very well on it.

Thanks for your time. I have been lurking on here for a while and this community seems awesome and supportive.

Justin

I don't know why it wouldn't work for you. I have a similar hardtail that I use only on pavement, and it's served me well from about 285 pounds to my current (and still shedding) 221.
