Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Good trickster bike...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm going to say the obligitory "Get a BMX"
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii112/lordgyron/Wild%20Channel%20BMX%20Flatland%20Jam%202008/17.jpg
BMX Bikes are:
- Cheaper to purchase
- Easier to find
- More durable
- Cheaper to maintain
- Have a much better geometry for tricks
- MUCH easier for learning tricks. MUCH easier.
- Will fit inside your car (no need for bike racks)
Seriously, $500 new and $2-300 used for a quality BMX bike.
EDIT: Plus the catalog of tricks for BMX is HUGE. Not so many for fixed gears.

Although now that I think of it, if your looking for a trick frame to be lighter than your steamroller you will probably be disappointed. Trick frames are made burly and thick for strength.
I now change my vote to a Sunday Funday...

Lots of good input, I appreciate it.
The reason I have ruled out a BMX is because I am a taller guy (6' 3") and BMX bikes are uncomfortable for me. I am just looking for something that I can ride to the skate park and dink around on when hanging out with friends.

Non sense, you'll be ridiculed if you show up to a skate park with a fxie...I know someone who's 6'5" and rides a BMX.
Get something with a long top tube, like somewhere near 22.5.

Actually, some of my friends do it all the time.

Fixed at a skatepark is just not all that smart unless your a kid riding like those in DeathPedal. If you want to do tricks, get a bike designed for tricks... If you really just hate BMX, look at getting something like a Specialized P.2

Exactly!
Or if that doesn't work, consider a 24" cruiser. I'm 6'1" and I used to ride street on a cruiser...then I went back to a 20".

I just want something that is more comfortable than practical that I can dabble on, nothing more. I don't plan on being the next Dave Mirra or Jamie Bestwick. Fixies work for me.
+1 on the fixies being ridiculed in the skatepark. thats how it is for the majority here. there are some videos of fixie riders riding in skateparks here, but its always when there's no one in the park.
Not trying to sway you or dishearten you, just a heads up. Also, I say dont get the PK Ripper. There was a thread a while ago where a bunch of us posted pictures of broken PK Rippers.

$470 - http://www.danscomp.com/107096.php (http://www.danscomp.com/107096.php#)
The last cruiser I had was a Haro Backtrail 24. I'm not sure if Haro still makes that or not. This was years ago.

I recommend: http://www.amazon.com/Sunday-Model-2010-Complete-Bike/dp/B003B8CU2E
It's darn close to 20" geo with 24" wheels, or, if you want to maintain excellent commutability, shell out the cash and build up a Milwaukee Bruiser

This is what happens when you try tricks on a fixed gear.
