I wanted to climb up to Mt. Wilson at least once before it gets too cold, but Angeles Crest is still closed. I was considering taking Big Tujunga to Angeles Highway. Anyone know if it is open. If you look at the county road closures map (http://gis.dpw.lacounty.gov/roadclosures/main.cfm), part of Angeles Forest Highway doesn't even show up anymore. It looks like you can take Upper Big Tujunga, but there is lots of construction there as well as on Mt. Wilson from Red Box. Anyone know if it is passable by bike?
Thanks!

Angeles Forest is closed between Big T and Clear Creek, but open towards Palmdale from Big T. In mid june/late july I did a couple rides up and down there-- up from Lakeview Terrace via Big T, down the Forest Highway to Upper Big T. Up Upper Big T to the Angeles Crest, turn right, take that to Red Box, then up the Mt. Wilson road to the summit. Once we went up the Mt Wilson Toll Rd. on mountain bikes, and descended the road route and took foothill back to Pasadena (http://beta.mapmyride.com/route/detail/20066648/ ). That was kind of fun.
There's a nice snack bar at the top now that's open on weekends from something like 10 am to 4pm. They've also been open on the 3rd day of 3 day weekends, too.

Yeah you can go all the way to Wrightwood if you want. We started going to Newcomb Ranch earlier this year when they opened AF. Since Hidden Springs cafe is gone and the fire station near there is closed there is no place to get water until Newcomb's.

I rode it about 3 weeks ago. ACH is closed from La Canada to Red Box, but I rode Big T to Angeles Forest Hwy, continued to Upper Big T, then went down Angeles Crest to Red Box, and summited Mt. Wilson from there.

There used to be water at Red Box before the fire. Anybody know if the water is running there now?

The drinking fountain still works but don't let any rangers see you as it's considered off the hwy and in the closed forest.

There were a couple of RV's parked in the lot, and a bunch of people hanging out at the Indian Center when I was there. The water works, restrooms are open.

I went up last Sunday. Angeles Forest Highway is open, but the gate at Clear Creek is closed because despite what is posted on the county road closures website Angeles Crest Highway is closed up to just south of Red Box (the website shows it just closed south of Clear Creek). Water was available at Clear Creek, and the forest service people didn't mind us, but they told us that if CHP caught us up on ACH we would get a ticket. We risked it anyways. ACH is washed out in a couple places, but it is passable by bike. The water at Red Box also worked, but the water pressure was low. No CHP was around on Sunday so we had a great ride free from cars and swarms of motorcyclists.
