Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - SE Draft single speed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi, im new here, but getting to the point this is about the se draft single speed. I was recently checking if it can be changed to a fixed gear by getting a new cog?
My friends said it can be changed but i still wanted other peoples feed back.

I believe it can be. That is a heavy bike for riding fixed though.
EDIT: Then again maybe not.

No - your back hub is threaded for a freewheel, not a cog.
You have a few more choices to make it fixed, from most recommended to least.
1. Get a new back wheel. Cheapest, easiest method, wheels range from 60 dollars and up for a decent formula to alexrim.
2. Relace a new hub to your old rim. Not advised, the rim on the se draft is decent but is not going to be worth the labor for the lacing up @ the LBS. If you can't distinguish a fixed hub from SS than you probably shouldn't lace your own wheel.
3. Suicide hub. Loctite a cog onto the freewheel threads. Not advised. See option one.
Or ride it singlespeed. Theres nothing wrong with that.
& don't let anyone on the forum tell you the SE is a piece of crap that should be left in the dump. It is good for the occasional rider that doesn't ride on the track but needs a working, easy to maintain bike to get around town with. I liked mine, honestly.

For 99% of the usage that 99% of the SS/FG riders actually partake in, the SE Draft is fine. In the sense that it is functional. It is just as light as most of the old conversions you see around.
Everything else is brand snobbery.

See if you can find an SE Draft Lite. It comes with a flip flop rear. I found mine online from Performance Bike for <$200.
