Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Closing Threads v Deleting Troublesome Posts

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Too often, I think, moderators see a few troublesome posts in a thread and lock it down. Why not simply delete the posts?

When a post is closed, the offending posts are still there for all to enjoy their aroma.

It's easier to close a thread for the sake of the server. I'm not totally sure how anymore but when you see a page count that's incorrect it's where the mods had to close a thread that was getting too large and start v.2 of the thread.

If you remove a post, you leave comprehension gaps, there are traces of the offending post quoted in possibly several places, maybe in signatures...it's the internet...you can't actually kill much.

Think about this: all those STINKY posts will attest as to how the poster was possibly banned eventually.

On the other hand, leaving some posts only encourages more golden goodness. If you are talking about A&S and VC they have a unique capabilty of starting new smoke with mitochondrial DNA transpositioning, currently only theorized by science. Others have to resort to slurs, trolling and linking to crap. Truly a remarkable new epic in cycleology.

If you see it's gone, Pavlov said you would avoid the behavior. Pavlov was groovy like a 78 of Bob Crosby.
