Mountain Biking - Trek Fuel 80

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm a roadie mostly but I have friend who wants to buy an all around bike for excercise and some trail riding in Canada. He is interested in the Trek Fuel 80. He will never race but wants a good solid bike that will last a long time. He is just getting back into biking and can afford this bike. I have two questions:
Is this a good reliable bike?
What is a good price for one?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I was looking into a fuel 90 disc or Giant xtc nrs1 (until my tax return fell through this month - *sigh*). Trek definately has a good setup in the fuel series, but in the end I was leaning more towards the giant- similar ride, but way better components (mid-level Race Face) than Treks house brands (Bontrager/Rolf.)
The Trek is a good bike. If you've ridden it and like it, go for it.
