For a double butted spoke (2.0mm/1.7mm), which diameter do I use to reference the Park TM-1 chart to determine which deflection value I need to aim for?

Thanks,

The 1.7. But- make sure the tension meter is fully on the thinner portion of the spoke or it will read high.

As was explained to me in a thread around here the spoke size is only a consideration due to the diameter of the spokes and how they fit between the three anvils of the meter. So that is why you need the whole meter to fit down on the butted area.

You always use the smaller diameter.

doesn't the spreadsheet card that comes with the TM-1 say to use the thinnest?
