Is Tuna Canyon open from Fernwood down to PCH?

On Saturday I rode up Topanga and Fernwood for the first time and wanted to take Tuna Canyon back down to PCH but saw the detour and road closed signs. A motorcycle rider told me that there is a barrier about half-way down that is passable for bicycles. I didn't want to make it half-way down then have to go back up.

Ok - should have done my homework first. LA County Dept. of Public Works web site says:

"Planned closure
From THE GATE EAST OF BIG ROCK MTWY to THE PCH
Begin Date: 09-07-2010
Estimated End Date: 10-08-2010."

Still wouldn't mind some first-hand info on road condition.
