Texas - 2010 Moonlight Ramble

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Online registration for the 2010 Moonlight Ramble is now available at BikeHouston.org (http://www.bikehouston.org) - register by Oct. 15 and you'll be guaranteed a t-shirt.
The logo for this year looks awesome as usual - we are making some final tweaks to it and hope to unveil it very soon. We are also trying to add some cool things before the ride like Goldsprints and a BMX rider demonstration.

Aaron

I very cool ride. The biggest challenge is watch out of riders who have never ridden outside their neighborhood. Glad it is not on the same day as the Tour de Donut.

That is a cool logo, but isn't that an "n" in place of the "y" in bicycle?

That's what I thought at first, but it's actually a peculiarity of the font that Chris Lockwood (designer) used. The y's in that typeface just look like that I suppose.

Yeah that was quite a weekend last year, when the Ramble was on the same night as Halloween night and then Tour de Donut kicked off about 5 hrs after the Ramble ended the next morning.

I'm glad it's not conflicting with the Red Cross Ramble on the 30th.

Not usually published before hand to hold off some bandit riders.
very roughly....
Starts at GRB convention center.
Head west through town
Cut south till West parkish
Westpark west till Galleria area.
Head north on Post Oak (rest stop near post oak westheimer)
Post oak to 610... one exit north on 610 feeder
Right/east on Memorial (?)
Just before 45 your jog over to a different street to enter and continue straight through town back to GRB.

It is usually windy/chilly once you get on the 610 feeder and through memorial park. Also watch out for the slight turn around I-45 as the police officer is usually more involved in his cell phone then telling riders to turn. It is easy to miss if you're riding 20+ mph. However just before that through Memorial Park is pretty exciting because you have this three lane road to yourself so you can really haul booty.

Thanks for the info on the ride. I hope to do this ride this year.

Look at the "h" in Moonlight. Then look at the y/n in "bicycle." It really looks like an "n" was accidentally typed in place of the "y."

Even if that's just how the typeface is designed, it's final appearance should dictate how it's used. There's no reason the letter couldn't be modified to appear more like a Y. In particular, a gap could be opened at the top of the letter, and a gap closed at the bottom.

If I ever get the chance to meet Chris Lockwood, I will be sure to pass on the feedback.

How was it? I was still in the process of buying a bike, so I ended up missing it.

It was great couldn't have asked for better weather I would guess around 70 something and hardly any wind if any at all. I heardsae a couple wrecks near me in the first few miles, one followed by someone yelling I am ok. I arrived 20 or so minutes late so I just hopped on didn't get to the mass start. People as always in good spirits and the moon was pretty full. The tail end seemed to lack signage and volunteers but I stopped and hung out at the rest stop for a bit with friends and again at memorial park to people watch. Along with rolling very slow I might have been with the last of the 20 mile group comming in, which was no biggie since I live in the area and know the route very well.
Another ride coming up that has lots of costumes is the critical mass friday night at seven some of the riders really go out on this ride, the only critical mass ride I make due to work conflict I actually take the day off to do this one. If you are itching to see bikes and costumes I recommend.
