I just got a set of new tires they're Contenental GP-4000 the side wall says to inflate them with 120lbs of air, but I was told by another biker not to inflate them to the max, instead I should'nt put more than 110 lbs of air in them because of my weight which is 216 lbs, so I would appriciate any advise here.

I thought that the more you weighed the higher pressure. I have some gp4000 and I put 100 psi in them. with no problems, I weigh 230. But I normally only put 100 psi in any tire except for my mountain bike.

Probably not the most efficient method to post this information but if you go to post #7 you will find a formula that takes into account the riders weight and the width of the tires. It seems to work well for me.

good up to a certain weight of rider. did the formula and came up with a rear tire pressure of 140 for the rear. my weight 265 lbs. i've been riding my 4000s at 115-120 with no problems. one flat in the last 3000 miles on them and it was from something i ran over.

Screw formulas. Experiment for yourself. Too low and you'll pinch flat more than likely, too high and you'll not be as efficient as you can in terms of traction and ride quality. Find what works for you. What width GP4000 did you get? 20, 23 or 25? I've yet to use a tire I liked at max pressure.
