I see that you can now get (at least temporarily) 46t Shimano 7800 rings, which are 130 bcd.

Now that Campy has come out with cross cranks, is there any evidence that Shimano will get off their butts and come out with some rings sets for cross? Personally, I'd like 46/36 110 bcd, but I'm a wuss like that.

Chainrings are one component that I never notice a big difference with. My standard FSA rings have been great for 2 seasons. Now if I could build my own custom 10sp cassette, I would jump on that.

I'm thinking about running a wider ratio IRD (11-28 or 30) cassette and just a 39 up front with a bash guard. I haven't found much use for a closely spaced 10sp cassette in cross. In fact, it's kind of a pain in the butt to be clicking thru all the gears.

Pro teams with Shimano stuff seem to come up with 130 46t rings , for their bikes.

Where could I get the 46t Shimano chainring that you speak of? I am looking for chainrings and have not seen any shimano ones less than 50 teeth.

Just google the words - shimano cyclocross chainring - and you'll get some sites.

Again, these are 130 bcd rings, not 110 bcd compact rings.

Another reason why my bike is an 8 speed. (39 up front and a 12-32 in the back)
