Apparently, these are the guys responsible for the Mission Workshop shoe as well.
Looks like the shoes will be $85 for a pair.
I'd love to see something a little more office appropriate, but these are a hug step up from anything else currently available.

I just hope that you don't hear the grinding or click of the clips while walking around, it would be nice to wear a pair for my commute to class. I have a pair of the Shimano SH-MP66W and you can still hear the click, so I hope these are recessed a little more.

QFT.
All I can say is HELLO IMPULSE PURCHASE.
I just wish they had velcro straps. They make me feel a bit more secure.

I wish someone would attempt a Look cleat...
If the soles are as stiff as they should be for clipless, then I still wouldn't want to walk around in them for any long distances.

this shoe may actually get me to switch to clipless. maybe.

Except that the Rondels look better than any of those, and are 100% leather.
The Ovis is leather too and looks nice. Which is probably why it's the same price as the Rondels.
For those wondering: on the Rondels, eggbeater clips are 100% sub-flush and don't scrape at all. 99% sure these will be the same way, since it's the same manufacturer.

they are all very ugly and will look worse with wear, but at least these are cheaper.

ugly is sort of subjective....

i agree. subjectivity aside, these are exactly the same at a lower price.
there's a video.. the blacks ones in the beginning of the vid looks much better than the ones on the website IMO.

I have a pair of old blue Shimano's that looks similar. They reminds me of Van MBX shoes form the late 70's

why does he roll down his pants before riding?

are they spd compatible
Kind of like the look of the ones on the website, remind me of black/white chucks

why does he roll down his pants before riding?
i guess if he doesn't care about how stupid he looks in one of those undersized fedoras, he doesn't care about having chain crud on his jeans either

last time i didn't roll my pant leg up my right pant leg became a bell bottom with a inside split. now they are some sweet cutoff shorts!
if you wear some solid pants and ride fixed you can even dislocate your ankle, know someone who did it

i sometimes just keep my pant leg rolled up all day. people at work think im "gangstah", which i most definitely am. recognize.

How are they "exactly the same" when the Rondels are 100% leather and these are nylon?
(Except for the Ovis, which is leather and the same price as the Rondel.)

the rondels have the same amount of nylon.

I dunno, if those mid-tops are anything like my old Diadoras, they are fine to walk around in.
Indeed, it's a shame they don't have any sizing info on that site so I can see if they come in wide sizes...since I had to stop wearing sandals, my old Diadoras have been getting a lot of non-winter miles and are looking pretty worn. To date I have not found a mid-top shoe as wide and comfy as they are. :(
the rondels have the same amount of nylon.
This is not even remotely true.

See me? I'm the guy curled up in his chair quivering thinking about that. YOWTCH!

Quick question are SPD clips taller or have a more defined clip then the egg beaters clips because someone mention that there egg beater clips didn't make the click sound when walking on concrete.

That was me. Egg beater clips are 100% sub-flush on the Rondel. Egg beaters are all I use, so I dunno about the SPD cleats.

they both have nylon shanks. neither have any nylon in the uppers.

I have a pair of these
http://www.bicyclebuys.com/productimages/SHMP66WPART.jpg
and but I am using SPD clips but I get the click and grinding sound when I am walking on concrete. I would like to add the DRZ shoes but wonder if the egg beater will fix the problem with the Shimano shoes also
Oh, ok Adriano.
So you DO realize that the Rondel is made of a higher quality material than the $85 shoe (leather versus not leather).
This is good news for everyone.
I'm glad we sorted that out.

i dont know if all leather uppers would be an advantage here. id take the canvas, the ventilation, and my $40.
...In fact, Im going back to the old style toe-cages for awhile, the polyethylene ones from Delta. I dont ride the hard road; I commute on a road bike.
I reckon can tolerate a bit less efficiency, and I came up with the older style caged pedals. Im looking forward to the change, and I can now wear any sort of shoe I wish. :)

Regardless of your personal preference of shoe material, the use of more expensive materials certainly explains a price discrepancy, and more than disproves any notion that these shoes are "exactly the same".

price is what you pay, and value is what you get.
carrying on a great tradition of cycling, this is a good example of paying more for something with the same, or arguably worse, performance.
if i was selling or had purchased the rondel, id feel shafted.
Why in the world are you using "performance" as a value metric for these shoes? Certainly they are not intended for performance.
These are fashion items which offer some functionality not typically found in fashion items (clipless compatibility).
If you think performance is a primary concern for these shoes, then you've misunderstood their purpose.
Armani suits are, carrying on the great tradition of fashion, an example of paying more for arguable worse performance than a good pair of sweatpants.

i understand that performance isnt their goal, but measuring how fashionable each is is of course impossible. you cited the leather upper as the primary difference, and i cited it as a disadvantage. putting aside both how ugly both are and how functionality between them differs, the rondels cost 50% more so
if i was selling or had purchased the rondel, id feel shafted.

Honestly, if I had one more pair of shoes, I'd have to trade in a man card.
Adriano:
You said the two were identical, which is demonstrably false owing to their vastly different construction materials. This is the reason for the difference in price.
This is typically how consumer products work; the ones using more expensive materials will typically cost more than those made of less expensive materials. A gold watch will cost more than a stainless steel one, and a silk shirt will be more expensive than one made of cotton.
This is especially true when both products are made by the same manufacturer.

the uppers alone are made of a different material, and im aware that increased cost of manufacturing increases retail price. remember that these two are sold as different brands, and thats likely where most of the price inflation resides.
again, price is what you pay, and value is what you get. is the price of the rondels 50% more? yes. are the rondels 50% more valuable? of course not. after the dzrs came out and
