Road Cycling - Bought a 2005 Cannondale R700

Yesterday, I bought a new '05 C-dale R-700 Triple and am very excited. http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/05/cusa/model-5RR7T.html

My first road bike. I have been riding my MTN Bike with skinny tires all year and can't wait to put some good FAST miles on this new one.

Given that this is my first road bike, I can't compare it to much but the price seemed right.

$1200 (pre tax) for a kick ass frame (ultimo / CAAD 7), decent wheels, and ultegra in the rear (105 in front). LBS also threw in a cage, water bottle, spare tube, 16g CO2 cartridge.


I was also looking and test riding TREK 1500, Specialized Allez Elite. I like the specialized better than the Trek.

I'll be looking at the R700 as well. Make sure you keep us updated on how you like it. More specifically, could you find some fairly ordinary road with coarse grains of blue metal (stone) (if your roads over there are like that) and tell me what the ride is like?

Rode it in a triathlon yesterday (25 mile bike course). I love this bike. Route was half asphalt / half concrete. On the asphalt the ride was very smooth. Since this is my first road bike, I don't have anything to compare it to, but there wasn't any vibration. The carbon fork and seat post seemed to do its job.

Good to hear. How was it on the concrete? Joins knock you about heaps?

It's a totally KA bike. Bought my wife the R800 and she can really tell the difference between it and her Trek

the concrete was smoother than the asphalt so the ride was great on concrete as well.

Hey. Sounds familiar, I just bought a Cannondale R700 (blue) after comparing to a Specialized Allez Elite and Trek 1500. The Cannondale is far lighter due to the amazing CAAD 7 frame, the WR-550 wheelset, and Ultegra rear shifter, and it just rode better for me. I upgraded the brake calipers to Ultegra and swapped for a Specialized Avatar saddle, but otherwise stock. My last bike was a Specialized Allez Carbon Epic, but I got hit by a car and had to replace it. Cheers, enjoy the bike, we'll compare notes later.

New '05 R700 owner here as well. Just over 300 miles so far and it rides great. I got the grey colored frame.

Had my '05 R700 for a little over a month now with just over 600k on it. Double in blue with upgraded Ultegra calipers. Post pics. I just can't stop pimpin' photos of my ride:

I actually just got my R700 yesterday. Ill post pics soon. So far I love it.

We are getting quite a group of R700 riders here. Mine's Saffron (orange). 900+ miles so far and I love it. I also changed the seat to a Specialized Avatar.

This is the bike from a slightly different angle. I've looked closely at the stem before and to me, it appears to be a zero degree rise, but I guess I'll go home and check with a protractor...

To do anything about that, I'd have to go back to the LBS and get them to swap out the stem for something with a negative rise, but I'm pretty happy with the way the bike is set up now.

Sorry it was mainly a joke. Smoothie105 got to it first in the other thread. Any time someone posts a bike photo with a stem that looks up a bit it is a forum rule (I think ;) ) that someone must post the flip it reply. LOL

Hey sorry I am a late poster to the I have one too club. Love the bike, Mine is the grey color too. Wow hmai I never really liked the blue but seeing it with those tires and the cages it looks super sharp. How much of a difference over the theta brakes do you notice with the ultegra's? ~800 miles and loving it!!

I never had a chance to ride with the Thetas. I purchased the Ultegra calipers online from Nashbar at a fantastic price while waiting for my bike to be shipped from the supplier and had the shop put them on immediately.

Hey hmai18 - nice setup, exactly like mine. The Ultegra calipers are definitely a worthwhile upgrade. Pretty cool colour match with the rubber, bro!

Thanks. I love the colour and am glad I chose to wait for the blue model to be delivered instead of settling and walking out with the saffron or the charcoal grey.

Made the bike shop order me the saffron one. Should be coming in today or tomorrow. I'm so psyched, this is going to be a major upgrade from my '94 Giant Perigee.

I had a '04 R600 (see attached pic). I loved it, it was comfortable, smooth and fast. I had it for about 6 mths and approx. 1700km's on it. Would have kept it but discovered that the frame was too small and caused some pain/discomfort. I went to "wrench science" and did an on-line fit calculator. I required a longer top tube than the 52cm c'dale, unfortunately to get the proper top tube I would have too long of a seat tube. Had to buy a bike with a sloping top tube. Bought an '05 Devinci Silverstone Veloce 9s and am much more comfortable, no more discomfort.

Anyway, the c'dale are in my opinion one of the best all aluminum bike made.

I have one in blue, I love how in every picture someone posts the color seems to change just a bit due to the lighting, whatever. I swapped my saddle out for the Alias and haven't changed anything else. Thinking about the ultegra breaks though.

Whoops, forgot I put new conti attack and force tires on it. Big improvement over the stock hutchinsons.

The lighting always changes from pic to pic, but the ones I posted here are a lot more accurate than the ones I had posted before.

That Patriot Blue w/ Blazer Blue HyperHighlight (gloss) - yup, pretty stylin'. Great bike in any colour though. Thad - what did you get charged for the Alias upgrade?
