I had the most wonderful bike ride yesterday on a quintessential late September day in southern Wisconsin. I only wish I could describe it better than what follows.

It was 50 degrees when I got up at 6 AM and by 10 AM it was 60 and time to hit the road. I headed out into the country under a clear deep blue sky with just a light breeze. Not a cloud in the sky. It seemed that I flew past fields of as yet unharvested corn and soybeans. Had to dodge the woolly caterpillars crossing the road. A sure sign winter is not far away.

After 15 miles I had been passed by only 2 cars! Between 15.5 and 16 miles I was passed by 3 more cars and added the sixth car at 21 miles.

I was so amazed at the day and peace I found, I stopped on a road that might see a couple of cars a day, and listened to the silence of nature. All I could hear was the wind rustling the corn and the insects in the fields.

All of my previous riding had been in California and no matter where you road, there was traffic or the sounds of traffic. What a wonderful difference here in southern Wisconsin.

I hope your day was as fulfilling.

Cheers

You are describing the kind of riding I get on our local trails during the week.

No cars, perhaps 5-10 bikers and a few walkers over 20 miles.

Scenery all over the place!
