Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Apparently this is a very stupid question.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

How the hell do I get that 5th chainring bolt in a Sugino XD? The crank arm covers it, and there isn't even enough room to put the bolt there in the first place. What gives?

Do you have a picture of the underside of the crank arm?

Do that one first?

so if you take the chainring off completely, there's no way you can get the nut between the spider arm and the crank arm?

Now I do:

It doesn't fit, and if it did I couldn't tighten it.

I think you're supposed to put the nut in there and the bolt on the other side.

WoundedKnee

I thought about that, but the tool to hold the nut to keep it from spinning won't even fit, I guess I'll try it.

just use ur finger to hold it to get it started, friction will do the rest

I hate the Sugino XD for this very reason.

yeah putting chainring bolts in rarely requires the tool.
