Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I have a hybrid that I would like to change out the shifters. How do I know what is compatible to what as far as sram vs shimano? It has an alevo derailleur and sram max pro grip shifters on it. I would like to put trigger shifters on it.

since you have a shimano RD you will need to use Shimano trigger shifters. I don't know of any shimano compatible SRAM triger shifters, though as you have, SRAM makes compatible twist shifters. If you want to go SRAM you would need both the triggers and a new RD.
Not sure what SRAM is currently making, but Attack and TRX trigger shifters work with shimano RD. Those are listed on at least a couple of sites. Attack is listed in both 8- and 9-speed versions. Check Bikeman.com.

Is that Sram MRX Pro shifters on there, by any chance? It seems like all the MRX stuff I see is for Shimano cogsets. If they are in fact MRX shifters, choose the Shimano System compatible (make sure it says that under the picture) triggers with the appropriate number of speeds (sorry no 6-speed, but 7,8 and 9 are there) from this page (http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/index.php?category=773) or choose the appropriate Shimano triggers from this page. The cogset is the pivotal part you'll need to match the shifters to.
If the cogset is Shimano, you'll need Shimano or Shimano compatible Sram Shifters.
If the cogset is Sram it could either be Sram shifter only OR it could be Shimano or Shimano compatible Sram shifters you'll need.

Thanks Lester, they are indeed the Sram Mrx pro shifters. (7 speed). This helped a ton.
