Bicycle Mechanics - Quill Stem A/B Measurements?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Shopping online for a quill stem. Notice some of the stems are listed with A/B measurements. Can anyone tell me what these two numbers mean?

since you did not copy or link to this item, I must guess, relevant measurements are length vertically, insertion.
and horizontally , Extension.
perhaps going to a Bike shop would be better.

For example:

A=12mm B=72mm
And, they're different for the different diameter of quill.

Do you have an older mountain bike with a 9/8" threaded headset?
if not its the wrong part .
Given its a QBP item your LBS can sell you the same thing..

Why don't you just call the merchant?? Perhaps you can't reach them today, but then you can't order today either, and even if you could it won't be shipped til tomorrow. I don't know how we would know better than the source.
Sometimes I don't understand people's resistance to asking a merchant questions, paired with perfect willingness to ask anonymous strangers with mostly undocumented experience, and then to provide too little info to boot.

Yes, I do actually.
I'd call the merchant, but they're closed on Sundays ;)

That would be silly.
I don't actually need to order the stem today. Was mostly curious if this A/B measurement was some old school thing about quill stems I've never heard of. I do plan to head to the LBS to see what they've got in 1 1/8" tomorrow, but they happen to be closed on Sundays as well.

From the QBP Catalog :
A = the distance from the bottom of the extension to the minimum insertion mark.
B = the distance from the top of the stem to the minimum insertion mark.
In real world terms,if you put a quill stem in all the way, then pulled it out to the min. insertion mark, this would be the A measurement.
