Hi,

I have an Icon seatpost that came with me Trek 2200 road bike. I know that it is aluminum and its diameter is 27.2mm but I am not sure how to determine the length. I would like to replace it with a Thomson Elite but need to know the length to make sure I buy the right one.

The ICON seatpost is a little bent at the top so what is the right way to measure its length?

Seatpost length is usually measured from the saddle rails to the end of the post. Here is Thomson's dimensioned drawing and you want to match the "L" dimension with you current post. http://bikethomson.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/08_-Elite_SP_-Dims_revA.pdf

You could, of course, buy a longer post than your current one with no problems unless it's so long it hits one of the water bottle braze-ons in the seat tube. Even then, just get out the hacksaw and trim off the excess.
