+ eleven million... seems like nobody is aware or they just don't understand what an epic ride that was.

Kurt Stockton called it: it's a changing of the guard in US Pro cycling. Levi, Lance, Horner, Hincapie are on the way out. Phinney, King, and a few others are on the way in.

You're about to have your Texas citizenship revoked due to a glaring omission (http://www.cervelo.com/en_us/news-blog/article/hottubes-lawson-craddock-wins-trofeo-karlsberg/279/).

Kid won all 3 junior road titles this year.

Granted I'm not the most astute follower of professional bike racing, but before yesterday, I'd heard the name "Ben King" maybe 3 times. Who is that guy, and what else do we need to know about him?

New U23 champ & new US Road Race champ. Basically, he earned the right to wear the Stars & Stripes jersey for the next year.

He soloed away w/ 40 miles to go & TT'ed his way FTW. Pretty damned remarkable I say.

Too bad they moved the USPro championship to May, 2011. Giving him all of 8 months to wear the jersey.

it's a good move. Currently the USPro conflicts with the Vuelta and the Worlds, and happens so late in the season that a lot of riders are probably spent.

Philly was in June.

I think King would have been brought back if Levi and Chris H. got involved with the chase. At the same time, I also think it was very professional of them that they didn't want to chase a rider from their development team. I don't think you will find too many pros that would be willing to do that these days.

Anyways, great ride and victory by King.

AMERICA!!! F*** YEAH!

Nice to see a lot of up and coming young folks (jr, U23). I really get discouraged with the amount of jrs and guys under 25yrs old that show up to races and ride locally. I would love to get a real good jr program going here. It would be amazing to see the young kids move to the ranks of Teejay, Taylor, etc. Unfortunately most kids these days would rather paly PS3. :(

He stated on Velonews that he will be riding for Radioshack next year. but didnt announce it until after the race. Probably levi/horner already new this and so essentially they would have been bring back a 'teammate'

Out here one of the most active race teams (Escape Velocity) runs a program for Jr's with coaching, free race entry (because EV runs most of the races) & the works for the cost of team kit so there's plenty of U23's at the local races. At the TT's there were a few U12's too ;)

I have no idea how they started but it seems pretty successful, so it's doable.

I posted up in the Pro Race section. Impressive rides by Phinney for the TT and King for the RR. My dad was on Paris Mountain on the route and watched the race from there, he said it was awesome.

Yeah but I don't get too excited till they turn senior. I've seen too many next big things who went nowhere after age 21.

I'm there with you, but knowing some of the folks around him and watching his race craft and demeanor, I'm pretty impressed.

There was no chase. Everybody was treating to race like a sunday afternoon social ride until the last lap when there was some attacks but still no organized chase effort on the flats. The break had like 4 minutes 5 miles into the race.

DO you think the peleton was a little over confident... thinking that this young man couldn't stay away for the entire race? At one point the the gap was huge like +15 minutes...

I'm just glad to hear that he was cramping with 14 miles to go. At least he's still human.

Sounds like by the time they realized he was serious threat, nobody capable of working wanted to. Like the russian in american flyers "No you go get him"

Either that or the old guys are all off their doping programs because of an impending federal investigation.

An amazing ride by King no matter what, but when one guy can outride an entire peloton of professionals on anything but the steepest hills, there has to be a good reason, be it tactics or otherwise.

I got to see the first few laps at the start and was on Paris mtn when they came through all 4 times. King was literally nose breathing the first couple of times he went through. The last time his breakaway mates were obviously hurting and he looked comfortable. Its worth noting that he soloed with 40 miles to go. But he'd been off the front since mile 1 almost. Say what you want about luck or team mates not chasing, but this kid has skills.

In the first crit I ever raced, I remember this junior asking if he could race the Cat 5 as well...
