General Cycling Discussion - What do "Saddle Sores" or chafing in the inner thigh look like?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Okay SO....
I've had an outbreak of little red sores between my left thigh and groin area and I only noticed them after riding in these tight boyshort bottoms that often cause irritation down there. They've been here for a little while now and I'm sort of concerned it might be an STI. However, I'm not sure if it's saddle sores or not. I bike everyday and my bike is a bit big on me, and the seats kind of an odd fit. I've had skin irritation from biking down there before but this time it's worrying me it's something else.

does anyone have advice or more information on saddle sores/chafing on inner thighs and what they look like?

just learned a whole lot more about you than I really wanted to know....

but to answer your question. I have had what looked like a rash of small bumps that resulted from friction with the saddle. That said, if you take a little time off the bike they tend to go away. The other end of the spectrum is a boil...

if you have legitimate concerns that it may be an STI, you should probably go see a Dr.

Tonight ... after your ride ...

1) Shower and clean that area well with soap and water.

2) Dry well.

3) Apply zinc oxide cream.

4) Put on loose boxer shorts.

5) Sleep.

By morning any light rashes or collection of small pimples should be gone or well on their way to going. If things aren't completely cleared up, try it again tomorrow night and that should clear up all but the biggest saddle sores.
