I'm beginning to think that thorn resistant tubes are patch resistant - http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?681421-adventures-in-thorn-resistant-tube-repair-how-to-create-a-patch&p=11496043#post11496043

Time for me to buy some new tubes. Do they vary much? I'm tempted to go for Forte tubes from performance unless someone has some passionate stories that will sway my decision making.

For the amount of rotating mass you are going to add, you might want to consider going to a more puncture resistant tire like Specialized Armadillo's or Schwalbe Marathons.

They have a built in puncture resistant belt versus just a thicker tube for about the same amount of added weight.

Another excellent flat resistant tire is Continental Contact. I think they are comparable in quality to the Schwalbe Marathons.

I purchase expensive tires, and use whatever tubes the LBS has on their shelf.

whenever i read about people who don't get flats, i remind myself that they're not commuting through industrial nyc.

anyway, seems so far that the consensus is that there is little variation between tubes.

anyway, seems so far that the consensus is that there is little variation between tubes.I still would not use thick puncture resistant tubes. I would simply run puncture resistant tires with a tire liner.

TR tube are the same as regular tubes , just more rubber is used , thicker on the outside of the tube than inside.

Schwalbe Marathon Plus puts the tire liner under the tread of the tire , so there is no overlap of the strip of liner band,
to wear a hole in the tube causing deflation , which (personal experience) happens..
